This is such an important lesson, I now cannot live without my capo. Fire and Rain, Thick as a Brick, Here Comes the Sun would not exist without them. You can change key or better yet, when jamming, have the other players capo for fuller sound. Bruce Springsteen’s cover of Purple Rain easy with capo. Let’s not forget Happy in open G tuning and capo by Keith Richards. Also use Open D tuning, capo on second fret and you have open E, which is easier on the neck of the guitar.

Great video! I use a capo (one of those beautiful Thalia capos nowadays) when the chord sheet I downloaded specifies it. But I’ve also used a capo to get my guitar in tune with my harmonica; I currently only have a C and a G harmonica. What surprised me the most in your video is the transposition. Instead of playing a C you played a different chord and yet it sounded the same! I have always played the same C chord, even with the capo on the third fret! I will obviously have to sing a bit higher. But is that correct: can one put a capo on say the third fret and nevertheless continue playing the same chords as one would play without the capo?

I first got a capo at a two finger power chord party...it was really dark but we just went along with it...you know.. everyone else was doing it. Then you start playing wonder wall and that was it.

Hi Andy, could you possibly do a lesson on mixing guitars in a live setting in a band? I know playing the exact same versions of chords on different guitars just isn’t that interesting to listen to so I would love some tips.

I've been using a capo since 70s , which my dad had sitting around never using it. I put it on my tele, and never looked back. All I ever knew about a capo is it changed the sound of the simple chords I was producing. I can change chord progression by repositioning the capo while playing. 😅

Yeah Mr Andy I'm really kind of used to using my own bar chords so I have to partially agree with your friend I haven't used a capo ever and I think I would probably get a little more confused I'm not any kind of a lead guitarist I love playing chords and I play just fine just playing my chords I do know how to play the pentatonic scales . So playing some leads yeah as long as I stay within the pentatonic scale yeah😊

Hi Andy! First of all, thanks a lot man! I picked up the guitar just a few months ago and thanks to you a can play a fair amount of songs and riffs that I like! But I have a question about the capo. I am playing on electric guitar and I’m nog quite sure if you can play electric with a capo or not. So is it really used on electric or is more a no go? Because I almost never see people playing with a capo on electric guitar.

@jk5376
@jk5376 Ай бұрын
There are tables on-line (search “capo chord chart”) that show you what a chord will sound like at different capo positions. For example, if you play a standard “C chord” with a capo on 2nd fret, it will actually sound like a standard “D chord”. This may make a song easier to sing.

How can I improve in my soloing I use scales but I'm really scruffy and not clean and cool so I want to know how to improve and get advance.
@saqibshabir9755
@saqibshabir9755 5 жыл бұрын
Here's my advice: First make sure that you are 100% confident with the scale you are using. Also make sure you listen to the guitarists you love. Secondly I would suggest playing along to a backing track of drums or a tune to improvise to. When improvising, just noodle around the scale. If you've learnt some licks then add those to your improvising. Finally try to practice muting string techniques to make your solos clean without any other strings ringing. I really hope that this helps. Take your time, practice most importantly enjoy yourself!

Barry James Hi! I have a Norman Studio ST 40 folk (Godin).
@barryjames308
@barryjames308 5 жыл бұрын
@@nicolen.9642 that's a standard size dreadnought steel string. Are you sure your capo is for steel string (and not nylon string/classical). If you have the kyser quick release capo it clamps on the strings quite tightly. If the neck of your guitar is quite wide you might need to move the capo up or down a little to get all the strings to ring out (similar to what you might do with your index finger for barre chords). The other possibility (albeit unlikely with a kyser capo) is that the action on your guitar is so high (the distance between the strings and frets) that the capo is not fully fretting your E string. Also make sure that your capo is as close as can be to the fret wire. If it's too far back in the fret you won't get a clean sound.

@@andycrowley I love the g7th capo too. Particularly the 'Performance 2' model. I used the Kyser 'quick release' before that but I found that my knuckle would hit against the capo when playing in the 1st fret making some chord shapes more difficult. Also the kyser quick release tended to require more re-tuning since it clamps much more tightly than the g7th

I'm afraid this is about as helpful as the person who sold you the capo. It isn't explained that if you put a capo on, are the chord shapes the same? Or Completely different? If so, how?
