Thanks ARod. I’ve been using my OEM Bottle jack (& jack stands & chock blocks) for years, since the head of my floor jack is too big to fit in the Ford-recommended lift points. Using the OEM Bottle Jack is obviously a lot more time consuming, but I didn’t want to experiment with lift points. Your advice has always been solid, so I’m gonna apply it & get more use out of my Floor Jack. I’ll reserve my bottle jack for roadside emergencies. Thank you!

Pressed in tubes can distort, because the Vehicle weight is at the suspension and you are trying to lift aways from that point ..
@acemobile98062 жыл бұрын
you do NOT want to jack the pumpkin on an axle with press-in tubes (Sterlings, Dana 80s, AAMs) with a lot of load on the truck. You can distort/bend the axle tubes doing it that way where they are pressed into the carrier. Axles with drop-out chunks (Ford 9", Dana S110s, any semi-truck) are not quite as sensitive to this but still use some common sense. If the truck is heavily loaded, either get the load off or jack as close to the wheels as possible. The heavier it is, the more you'll want to use the bottle jack & as long as the vehicle stays in place, it's actually safer. Just my 2 cents based on my years of "shaking hands with danger" 🤣

Promoting jacking on the differential is insane. You are taking the distributed weight from both springs and placing it in one center point. The weight of the truck is still on the springs yet not on the wheels when jacking in this manner. This may have been fine in the days of a continuous, solid rear but those days ended decades ago. This is NOT a safe method of rear jacking with a modern, live, rear end.
