Bought the tool, watched your informative no BS video and it worked exactly as shown. In the past I tried cheaper pullers that never worked but made me actually invent curse words. Thanks Mike, it made my life a lot easier and the price is of no concern when you consider time is money.

Just added that to my list of need tools. Have used the method you described with the dremel but this is WAY more civilized! Checked out the tool price, didn't think it was exorbitant. Excellent video!

Yeah the Dremel method works well but it sucks to do. The prices of clamshell pullers has come down a ton!

Thank you for sharing. That I was needing a hydraulic press but didn’t want to lose space in my shop. This will remove the differential bearings and I don’t lose space either. That’s win win for me.

Great tutorial video! I am using this tool on my GM 12 bolt pinion bearing and I will have to modify one of the clam shells to fit the bearing properly. It is supposed to grab it by the bearing cage, is that correct?

Another informative “how-to” video Mike! BTW, I watched your regear videos a bunch of times and got the confidence to regear my wrangler to 4.10 and put a new LSD in the front D30. Oddly, installing the front axle seals was the hardest part!

The price for knock off pullers has fallen dramatically, making it within reach for many. Of course the quality may slide but for occasional use they should be OK. The clever design to include that lower flange to protect the cage from distortion is interesting.

I purchased a complete set of Yukon tools. It was over $5000 worth of tools through Yukon. I know that sounds crazy and I never would have purchased them but I purchased a Posi unit New in box Yukon with the complete set of bearings and shims to fit my 2004 GM truck for the grand total price of $230. Yeah it was a steal. I purchased it from marketplace . Anyway, when I went to pick it up, the guy had been drinking and he was quite young actually 30 years old he was showing me the truck that he had purchased it for but he had since totaled it then he showed me some tools that he had purchased to put all the bearings on And so force and so on and he said I need to make some more money. Do you need to buy any tools I have some that’s never been taken out of the plastic or any of the boxes so I look at all of his tools and it looked to me, he used to work somewhere that sold Yukon tools, gears units everything because he had tons of the stuff I purchased every tool he had from Toyota axles to Dana rear seals, pullers installers you name it he said because I purchased the rear chunk that he would let me have all the tools That I picked out for $100 bill. I have done mechanic work my entire life and I probably have $150,000 in tools but when you’re buying snap on Mac Mac and whatever it doesn’t take long but I didn’t know how to use a bunch of those tools but when I got home I figured everything up and I had spent $310 at his house because I actually got the tools for $80 and the carrier for $230 I never would’ve purchased these tools any other way, because I’ve always done it the old way and destroyed the bearing. I have presses and everything and I have the bearing separators. Thank you for the video everything came with paperwork, but it didn’t really specify if it would hurt the bearing or whatever, and it was pretty self-explanatory how to do it, and you had to adjust your race tied against the bearing to keep from destroying the bearing . Again, thank you for your video.

Is it correct to say that the outer race (cup) must be in place because the puller is acting on the roller cage instead of the inner race, and the rollers are pressing against the outer race (cup)? Is this necessary because the inner race is not protruding beyond the shoulder it's pressed against?
@TheBFHGarage
@TheBFHGarage Жыл бұрын
Correct. When you pull a bearing, you need to have the race in place otherwise it will damage the bearing cage.

I am really glad I discovered your videos! I have been afraid to do my own gears for years so, I end up paying someone else to do the work and they don't always do it right. I'm going to work on a D44 and a Chry 8.25 because the guys I paid didn't get it right. Anyway, your videos have inspired me to do the work myself! I love tools and would like to buy this puller you demonstrated. Would you please tell me the manufacturer and model number for your puller so I can buy one?
