That was me 50 years ago, but then I had muscles and an empty wallet.. I made a good living and retired 10 years ago. Bought 40 acres in the middle of nowhere SC with a nice home and 4 tripod stands within 300 yards of my bedroom window. Living the American dream.

Nice video young man, you have two major flaws. you are not wearing a harness and the top and bottom are not tethered. I only bring this up because I fell the Sunday before Thanksgiving, from 6 feet 4 broken ribs and collapsed lung and a week in the hospital.

Charles Emerson, I'm glad you're alive and kick'n! I am curious to know what caused the fall? My son and I plan to take up deer hunting with a bow and hearing that the number one cause of injury and death is falling from a hunting stand concerns me. So, I'd like to hear from anyone who's experienced a fall (or a near fall) and what caused it and what saved them. Was it equipment malfunction? Was it human error? What was it?
@charles120629 жыл бұрын
Title1ed I was climbing the tree and the cable on the top of upper part of the climber came out of its holder, the spring had become bent and I did not notice it. When I moved the stand side to side to release it from the bark that allowed the cable to come un done causing me to fall. I will not mention the name of the stand as there may be litigation.

Make sure you have staps attaching the platform to the seat. Because if your feet slip and your platform slides down the tree you are screwed. Also use your harness and move the strap up incrementally too as a precaution.
@bfriendly1009 жыл бұрын
If you dont tether the two pieces together, you are asking for trouble......It is more important than a harness.
@robertbrandywine9 жыл бұрын
Why is this marked as spam? You are more likely to get in trouble with a falling-away bottom piece than to fall out of the stand. The end result might not be as deadly but it can still be very, very, bad.

I made that mistake. The bottom fell and I was stuck. Luckily I was only about 12 or so feet up. Had to hang then drop. Hurt a little. If it was any higher o don't know what I would have done.

Nice job....never saw how these work, now I know. Video was very clearly explained...great work, thanks
@ericsmith896110 жыл бұрын
I know you didn't go too high but you need to wear a safety harness and please tie that bottom platform to your top before you lose the bottom. One more thing when you sit down see your bottom strap around the tree is level with the tree it needs to be high so the stand digs into the tree. Be safer today to hunt tomorrow.

I been using a climber almost 30 years and I can tell you this is not how to do it. You DO NOT use your arms to push/support yourself on the upper part to pull up the bottom part. That's dangerous. You sit on the front "crossbar"(that's what its for), then pull the lower platform up with your feet. Stand-up,sit-down method. This kid was tought wrong.
@chadharrelson28808 жыл бұрын
I use two straps to hold mine together when im "backpacking" it in. then I attach the two straps to hold top and bottom together.

New to the climber world and put it to use this hunting season. kzbin.infoUgkxlQ7TDIrnnSXXbRgFFaxqwullRJJIuYAs I felt safe while climbing up and down a tree. It did take some time getting used to climbing and descending the tree. Once I figured it out I was comfortable going in climbing a tree knowing I was going to be up a tree quickly and most importantly quite not scaring every deer out of my area. I am 6’2” and 240 lbs, fit and comfort were great. I bow hunt and found no issues hunting from it. It is a little bulky to carry in and out of the woods vs some of the smaller open front climbers but I thought it was worth the bulk/weight due to ease of climbing (using the rail to sit on) and comfort for long sits.

Depends. If you take it slow it's pretty easy. Only the part where you move your feet is hard really. I barely lift it, I just shimmy it side to side a little.

nice videos , but doesn't talk about using a tie rope to connect to the bottom part so it will not fall down from the tree, no bungie cord or straps to go around your shoes or boots to help feet stay in the bottom part of climber. no safety harness and warns about making sure you climb up a live tree not a dead one
@touu9 жыл бұрын
Great video, but you forgot to add the part where you strap the the climber down to the tree before you sit on it.. It is quite common for the climber to fall as you sit down on it.

This wasn't a bad video but for 1. Where is your harness, for 2. The bottom platform needs some adjusting, for 3. You made way to much noise, and for 4. You rushed this a little too much try taking more time to explain everything easier
