Good video. Anyone performing this repair on very old pipe should realize that old pipe is often brittle and if you try to use a PVC cutter like he did in this video, there's a good chance it will break the pipe. If in doubt, use a saw of some sort.

You can do it. If you have disposable gloves wear them. The purple stuff can be messy. Keep your free hand away from the cutter. Thanks

Was going to use a compression coupler to fix my water main line. Going to do this instead. Looks like it’s easier and less prone to failure because it doesn’t have any gaskets.

Good. And easy to do. You need a good length of exposed pipe to get the required bend. Also, if you're quick, and not using fast-set solvent, you can glue everything at once and get your quarter twist by rotating the coupling.

Great fix if the pipe is not rigid as in a broken buried pipe that cannot be easily lifted up to slip on the couple. For that fix I think you'll need a compression slip couple or union IMHO.

Guessing 3/4 of an inch. There is a stopping point on the left and right side where the pipe enters. There is an area dead center that might be 3/4" long.

Yes slight twist as you push on. Be firm as you push it on. Slight twist. Be sure to push it as far as it will go

+gtdodgeviper Theoritically, yes, but there are variations depending on how big the pipe is. Also, if there are any local plumbing codes. But let's say that you are doing a simple irrigation project for a demo/test. It will work just fine by itself.

I have 3/4 pipe and a 3/4 coupler and the coupler is too big and a 1/2 coupler is too small. Wtf am i doing wrong

Make sure everything is either schedule 40 or schedule 20 I bet that is the problem.

@@origtex I went to Ace and took the section with me. Guy said what I had wasnt pvc and said the name and it was similiar to pvc but anyways this stuff is a slight yellow color. What I did was changed my pressure relief valve on my water heater and had to cut the drain tubing to get it off because it had 90's and bends. I found a real good solution for the future. A union. Perfect. I thought I was crazy. Im a mechanic but not a plummer. Haha

You have CPVC, the dark yellow/tan stuff. Different fittings.
