Thanks for the video, it has answered a few of my questions. I have received my Arete two days ago and our humidity dropped from 80 to 55% with a much warmer feeling in the house without much heating and clear windows. However, I am still not clear if I should run the device 24/7 or can I run it less?
@MeacoUK-Omar
@MeacoUK-Omar 9 ай бұрын
You can leave it turned on 24/7 but it won't necessarily be running 24/7. Once the target has been reached (- 3%rh), the dehumidifier will stop. Every 30 minutes the fan will run and check the humidity level, the dehumidifying indicator will turn off. If the humidity level has increased more than 3% above the target, the compressor will turn on and the dehumidifier will start to run again - the dehumidifying indicator will be solid. If the humidity level is within 3% of the target, the dehumidifier will go back to sleep and check the humidity level in another 30 minutes. Thanks.

@FLOSSYTREADWELL
@FLOSSYTREADWELL 8 ай бұрын
I don't think it can be assessed how often to change them Fiona because depends on air passing through. As all homes are different and levels of dampness the amount of use each filter gets will be different. In a home with pets Fur or feather dander &/or smokers or dust causing activities the filter would need cleaning or changing more regularly. They're on Meaco website both options. I have my humidifier now for 1 week and the target humidity is 55% set on the device. However, this will be achieved when we are out and about but not necessarily when we are at home as its more like 60-62 so I am wondering if I can ignore this or is 1 week just too short of a time for the device to reduce the humidity to a constant 55%? Or is there in reality no constant and it will always creep up at times during the day? We did not had any mist in our windows and the heating works better as well so I can’t say it isn’t working it’s actually working very well just it doesn’t get to the 55% very often.

I've found that if I enter the room for a few minutes (seconds even) the level will go up, so the sensor must be really sensitive. I wouldn't get too hung up about it (I'm the same as you, always looking at the numbers), and just let it do its 'thing'. I can't get my head around how it works (the Arete one especially) with the rear vent against the wall, I thought it would work better with the rear vent drawing the air in and turned into the room ?
@FLOSSYTREADWELL
@FLOSSYTREADWELL 8 ай бұрын
I agree with John as my reading is different in every room as is my hygrometer .Mine has spent a week or two getting the damp % down and now just maintains it. If you have a very bad problem where damp isn't being won over due to constant source of wetness... then the machine will just keep working at that source. So if you have a bad problem needs serious attention to rectify you can keep the Arete slogging away at it or you can get professionally corrected and use your Arete to keep your home in check as it works in maintaining normal acceptable damp levels & condensation. Also to dry clothes and clean air in dry times & summer months.
@johnw2758
@johnw2758 8 ай бұрын
Also, don't forget that we are constantly putting moisture into the air via breathing (better than the alternative 🙂), as we do when washing, cooking, showering etc. Our living room was regularly 77-80%, we have our Arete upstairs, the living room can now be anything from 58-62%, even with this very cold weather the unit manages to dry our washing (overnight with the door shut) and has also allowed us to keep our heating at 18C and still feel comfy warm. We had the unit on 24/7 this last month (November) and the total cost of usage was £30 !! Really can't grumble at that as we probably saved without having to rewash clothes because they didn't dry quick enough and started getting that foisty smell. Another added bonus is our radiators aren't all draped in washing therefore allowing us to have the heat from them. I really don't know how we managed for over 30 years, I think the problem with dehumidifiers is that some people buy the cheap, rubbish ones, these are the ones you see thrown away. The unit now doesn't fill daily (unless we're drying clothes) and seems to have found its level (55%), it's taken about 5 weeks and now switches off regularly. Don't forget it's taking all the moisture that is 'hidden' in fabrics etc, so you have to be patient.

@@johnw2758 Exactly John! Thank you John for explaining your usage, situation & cost of running. I'm expecting a £30 hike first month & I think that puts people off and they try resell them for not much less than they paid. This is very unfortunate because they MUST give the Arete time to get the home into a cycle where the unit fires up just to maintain & doesn't need to be blasting out whole time its on because it just needs to test the air. I'm back to being able to leave my heating on longer and lower while the rooms all feel comfortable. No more getting out of the shower with the blasting red hot radiator failing to make the room feel warm. Radiators are no longer red hot, they're warm as the room is. The wetness dripping off the loo cistern is gone & showing no signs of return, the loo seat is warm (sorry too much information there) and the air is ambient everywhere & clean. I walked into the usually 'very cold' room this morning and was same as all the others with dry windows. I do intend to clean the filters at least every 2 days to keep optimum efficiency. I also want to warn people that there are scam companies pretending to sell these & others at tiny prices... when I checked Feefo & Trustpilot not one person had received anything apart from an email saying ordered and on its way. They were all fighting to get money back. So people, if you see a bargain too good to be true it probably is & check valid feedback.

The Meaco dehumidifiers have a humidistat, set this to 55%rh and then the machine will turn itself on and off as required, you don't have to do anything else apart from empty the water tank when full. When you start to open the windows in spring and summer then you can turn the dehumidifier off. The Meaco Arete dehumidifiers come with a HEPA filter and have an air purification mode. You can use this to clean the air in the spring/summer if you suffer from allergies. Hope this helps.

Well unfortunately I think I have to rescind my previous recommendations of Meaco dehumidifiers. Bought an Arete 12L a year ago, and it seems the software is glitching out, as buttons go on and off being completely unresponsive. Sometimes it would fix itself, but it is happening more frequently and now the AP/Clothes ones don't do anything either. First emailed Meaco a month ago about it, then again a couple of weeks ago - no response on both counts. All I wanted to know is if there was some way of resetting the firmware to fix this without hopefully needing to send it for repair. But a month without any support is ridiculous.

The humidity is 45% downstairs. But in the bedrooms upstairs i think is higher. In the bedroom where is no sun, the windows are full of water every morning. Two people are sleeping there with the blinds on and the door closed. During the day the door is opened. Will i need one for all the house considering downstairs the level is fine?Should i buy one and keep it only in that bedroom? Or keep it in the landing during day and in the bedroom during night? Will this help to not have water on the windows anymore? The temperature in the house is 21. What size is best to buy?
@chrismichaelmeacouklimited4004
@chrismichaelmeacouklimited4004 9 ай бұрын
The best way to use one would be to have it on the landing all the time, set it to 50%rh and let it run. Leave the internal doors open and the blinds up during the day. Think about where the moisture is coming from, is it the bathroom because there is no extractor fan, or is it because laundry is being dried on a rack somewhere. If it is the bathroom then have the dehumidifier on the landing outside the bathroom, if you are drying washing then use the dehumidifier to dry the washing. If it is none of those things and you just have single glazed windows, then take into account that you will always have some condensation because the windows have no insulation. Go for a 12L if there is just one or two people in the house, a 20L is there are 4 or 5 of you and laundry to dry.

To use contibuous drainage on a dehumidifier place it by any sink, bath or toilet and use a hose to drain the water away. Just remember to raise the dehumidifier so that it is higher than the sink/bath/toilet as the water will only drain downhill. If you are trying to dry the whole house then I would position the dehumidifier in the hallway and leave the internal doors open so that the air can circulate.

My question is where does all that water come from?! Our bathrooms have powerful extractor fans. Thank you for your purchase and your question. Excess moisture comes from our daily activities, bathing, showering, boiling the kettle, cooking and breathing. Over the years the moisture builds up in organic material like paper, timber, clothes, furniture, walls and clothes. As the dehumidifier starts to dry the house out all of these organic materials release moisture into the air, adding to the load. Eventually the dehumidifier gets on top of things. Hope this helps.

I ended up with Book lice AKA barklice (not lice but they are common in damp homes) & they love to chew my birds feathers & will eat almost anything even synthetics. As the tiny critters are all female pheromone treatments and other insecticides really do nothing or very little. Online states, as you say, that they are attracted by high humidity. Spiders were almost queuing at the windows & would run in as soon as opened. At one point the cavity between double glazing was filling with water in one room. So this machine is a godsend. There is an argument that a dessicant dehumidifier is more efficient in older british homes such as a victorian terrace. Would you agree? I believe this model is not a dessicant version.
@chrismichaelmeacouklimited4004
@chrismichaelmeacouklimited4004 7 ай бұрын
The basic rule is around temperature and not type of house, as a dehumidifier responds to temperature and not the type of house and people run their houses differently. Below 10°C use a desiccant, between 10 - 15°C you can use a Meaco 20 or 25L compressor dehumidifier because ours are optimised for use in that range (most other dehumidifiers are not, so use desiccant if not choosing Meaco), 16°C and above select a compressor dehumidifier based on the amount of people in the house and the size of the space. A desiccant also becomes useful when you want to benefit from some of the warmth that comes off it, the above guide is based on what is the cheapest and best to run at those temperatures, but sometimes a user will be happy to pay for higher running costs for the combination of warmth and dehumidification.

After that I keep door open and the machine in the hall maintaining 50 or 55. Other rooms don't need the extra action. There's a source of damp needs sorting in the room but until that can be done I'll keep doing the above. This is my unique experiences. Arete designed for British and European houses ? These are very different from each other? These dehumidifiers are made in China btw. I guess that it is designed for countries outside UK. That's why it has a non English sounding name. They probably have found they are too big for UK consumers so that its ok to put it against the wall and tell you its designed for Britain anyway. And no explanation as to how it works placed against a wall when nearly all dehumidifiers require space around them to operate correctly? This model is a condenser dehumidifier so needs airflow, If you place it directly against a wall then you are losing efficiency. The presenter should save their acting ability for a movie. It's only a dehumidifier. Finally she should close the bedroom door when she is having a shower and use the fan which the shower should have. That is a basic fact. Following their advice will result in tracking damp air all over your house to the landing. If you close the door when you have a shower and use a fan you will avoid damp. There is an argument for using a large dehumidfier in a central place but you better make sure your dehumidifier is not junk...

Couldn't be further from the truth. We are a British company exporting our British designs across the world, generating jobs, revenue and taxes for the British economy. To do this we need a name that will work in languages across the world, one that we can trademark and protect. Arete is the Goddess of Excellence, and therefore the name is a good fit. Arete is already the most popular dehumidifier family in Europe, generating that tax revenue for the UK. Most dehumidifiers are designed in the far east for the way that they need to use their dehumidifiers, which is to put them in the centre of a room overnight to dry washing. In Europe we use them differently, and the scenario of placing it up against the wall is what a lot of people do due to space issues. You are right, that in a normal dehumidifier this will cause problems, both in extraction and long term relaibility of the fan motor, Arete has been designed differently and is therefore a better solution for European consumers. The extraction has also been set up to maximise under European temperatures and relative humidities, something that dehumidifiers designed in the far east won't have, this is why Arete tends to win European performance reviews. Unfortunately lots of people in the UK don't have working extractor fans in the bathroom, hence the bathroom is a common source of damp problems for our customers. Using an extractor fan is a solution, and should be used if you have one, but for many this is not an option for various reasons. Arete is certainly not junk, this is why it has a five year warranty covering collection, redelivery, parts and labour, something that you will struggle find from other brands. Meaco dehumidifiers are a British success story, something to be championed and to be proud of.

@@chrismichaelmeacouklimited4004 Simple internet search: "What country is Meaco from? Meaco is a UK company. However, its dehumidifiers are manufactured in China. Chinese-manufactured dehumidifiers aren't fit for UK domestic dwellings because they're tailored to the European climate. They're built to deal with high heat and low humidity, not low UK temperatures.8 Mar 2024" It is made in China, you export the design maybe but it is made in China so how is that far from the truth? Every company does this so its not a criticism of the company. Fridges like Bosch are made further east nowadays they sell the label to those that can make it cheaper. However, the reason I commented is that the video said its designed for the UK and European markets. These two markets are different in themselves (think sunny weather for Spain) but these ones in the video are made in China and have a French sounding name no matter how British you say you are. They cannot realistically be designed for the two markets at the same time either. There is a reason brexit occured because the UK is not the same as the EU. As you say yourself Arete is popular in Europe. I am just stating that the product is not designed for UK houses. You may be selling them in the UK and good luck if you are. Budweiser fills shelves with its beer in supermarkets but I have trouble finding anyone that thinks Budweiser is a nice drink. As I stated in the original comment. There is no explanation in the video as to why this dehumidifier is different and can be placed against a wall, bearing in mind that it needs airflow. Saying it has a better motor and mentioning relative humidity does not cut it with me personally but dehumidifiers sell like hotcakes so maybe it does not matter. You compare the far east where many people only have one big room anyway to Europe, the comparison you make kind of backs up my point that its not designed for UK. The one in the video is clearly too big for many (not all) UK consumers who pay a premium for rental or accomodation space. You are basically trying to sell a large dehumidifier by telling people they can place it against the wall but you don't explain why this can be done? Finally agreed on one point that most people do not have correctly working fans in their showers. But I think they really should try and address this and not use a large dehumidifier in the landing as a solution to it. Especially one backed against a wall as they need an intake and outtake not obstructed. I cannot see how it would work as is in the video, as the controls are usually on the top and the sides are narrower. You are losing a lot of efficiency this way. Maybe if the dehumidifer is very large the customer won't notice the loss of efficiency?

@@user-fo3lz4dj8s Arete is available in 5 different sizes, we will always help consumers find the right one for them. It actually comes down more so to the amount of people in the house, rather than the size of the house itself. The European market is mostly late summer (where homes have basements), autumn and early winter based (then mould and condensation driven), rather than the more summer based dehumidifier seasons in Asia and North America. The ways homes are designed and used in Europe, and the way dehumidifiers are used is fairly similar across Europe, but very different to how they are used in Asia. Placing a dehumidifier on a landing, or at the bottom of the stairs, is commonplace, in Asia they live more in apartments and don't havea reference to a landing. The name is of Greek origin, from the Greek Goddess Arete. We had feedback from over 2000 British customers that helped us in every detail of the design, plus customers from mainland Europe as well. The design was very much create and done for our core markets. Yes it is made in China, according to our British design. We have and continue to explore manufacturing in Europe. But we have not found a solution that can match the quality that we can currently achieve in China. Price is also a secondary issue. Anyone can buy product from China, there are very few of us in the world doing the designs ourselves and then sourcing the best manufacturing for those designs. The design for Britain and Europe details are numerous on the machine, but being able to push it up against the wall and the higher extraction rates are two important details. We don't want to make it too easy for our competitors by spelling everything out for them, it is all about attention to details and it took us 5 years to achieve it all. The dehumidifier in the video is appropriate for the size of house that it was filmed in and the number of people living in that house, but as I have mentioned five different sizes are available. Preventing excess moisture in the house is always the first priority, but for many they get to a point whereby owning a dehumidifier is a game changer.

@@chrismichaelmeacouklimited4004 Getting the Chinese to build it in China for shipping back to the UK, and can't explain how it works because worried about the competition stealing the idea? The Chinese are the world leaders in copying technology! Better make sure they send back the blueprints ... I know the origin of the word. French language uses a lot of Greek and Latin origins, but that name would ring to Spanish French and Italian consumers I would imagine less so for those in Britain. Well done if you find that English buyers for example go for the name "Arete". But if you insist that the European market is the same as UK then I bow to your knowledge on the subject. I genuinely wanted to know why it can be pushed against the wall and still work efficiently as I have gone through lots of dehumidifiers cheap, expensive, they are all the same, and if a cheap soldered part goes wrong on them even with a waranty it goes in the bin. All my washing machines fridges have warranties and if they break I get a new one because the hassle of it and price of labour (over here anyway) will be so high. 5 year warranty is a good selling point but I would rather a 1 year guarantee.

I just have to say this I have had the Arete one for over a year in 4 bedroom house and it’s got rid of all are mould and damp. We do have a fan in the shower room and leave the window open and extract the moisture but that does not mean it’s going to do so 100% as moisture travels. Also cooking breathing cause moisture so it will find the cold spots of your house and cause Mould if it just sits and lies their and does not evaporate. The reason you can place it closer to the wall is because it’ has a flat rears recess that means it can intake air from the sides just as good as from the rear. Other models tend to have the intake vent on the back with no recess meaning if you push it up to the wall your inches away from choking the machine. The Arete one if you care to take the look at the design has a wider body at the base and pulls in at the top and also has a recess which makes the vents not as close to the wall meaning you can have it closer to the walls. Another thing just because it’s made in the china does not mean it’s not UK designed and not a uk company. So would you say Apple are Chinese company. No they are American because they design it in America and get it made in china. Their is a difference For some reason you sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder because if you actually bought one you would find it’s an excellent bit of kit. It’s solved all are mould and condensation problems and we have even bought another for backup and for the washing drying room. And that takes a lot for me to be impressed and buy two

Seems rather stupid u dont make washable filters like on vacuum cleaners or other air cleaners, y don't u make the filter better quality so that it can b washable and save us buying these filters wich just make up the cost of having an eco dehumidifier?? Any money saved from this machine goes on the filters

The dust filter is washable. The HEPA filter is optional and you don't have to use it or buy it. But it does have excellent health benefits.

@MeacoUK if u don't use it the dust is being blown everywhere, the dust filter ur talking about barely catches stuff like fluff hairs n what not, u really must design a hepa that's washable before dyson decides to make one of these machines he's already got a humidifier
