I learned more from this one video than all the Waqas videos I've watched. I appreciate how you use a consistent workflow throughout your videos which makes it really easy to connect the dots between different concepts. You're a talented educator and I hope your content gets more views in the future! Cheers!

Awesome Joshua! Please make more. I personally loved the couple of videos on you have created on the editing techniques you use to tell stories, can you make more of these? Or perhaps a run-through of previous work explaining your choices in the edit and why? What mistakes you made or changes/solutions to problems you had on a particular job? Most KZbin creators seem to concentrate of small effects or basic info. No-one is creating content on the art of story telling through Resolve. Thank you.

Goodness gracious, another banger. Your videos are the perfect antidote to my normal experience searching through tutorials- I'm always clicking through long meaningless introductions and then finding there isn't enough depth in the explanation of the topic. As somewhat of a grading novice, I had never known about grouping clips and having multiple spaces for different parts of the grade. And you really seem to have considered the potential questions that might arise, so I feel good to try it out. Thanks!

Fantastic video Joshua (just recently started following you and all your work on tutorials is great and the knowledge valuable, thank you!) I have a video request if I may!! On the same topic of the fixed node tree workflow, Ihave the folowing questions: 1) How do you stay consistent when you want to add new nodes in a fixed node tree and ripple that to all the shots or a group of shots? 2) How do you ripple changes to all the same-number nodes (even if you don't change the structure of your node tree)? And finally 3) how do you deal with reviews from director/producer.dop etc while staying consistent and making global changes? Do you have special node tree just for that Thank you in advance for your efforts and I hope you find time to make a "fixed node tree part 2" and let us dive deeper at your workflow!!

Great video, thanks so much for making the node tree available for download. You may have this info in your other videos but what would your method be for texture and highlight control/rolloff in the TXT and HL nodes? Say if I wanted to add some texture and pull down highlights before moving onto the EXP node? Cheers!

What do you use in the texture node to emulate “mist” or atmosphere that you may get from pro mist filters or fog/smoque filters? I’ve liked the trick to use a layer node set to composite “screen” and then basically zeroing out everything in the custom curves and only raising slightly. It seems to add some genuine looking atmosphere. Wasn’t sure you if you had a better/preferred method

Great video! One small question; how did you get the thumbnail for your power grades to look like your node tree? Thanks!
@JoshuaKirkNZ

Take a screenshot of your node tree, then import that screenshot back into the timeline and then apply your node tree to that imported clip. Then grab a still of that screenshot with the node tree applied to it. It’s like inception.

I guess there are shortcuts or keyboard customizations so you know that key +5 is always exposure?
@JoshuaKirkNZ
@JoshuaKirkNZ Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure you can set a shortcut to jump to a specific node. That would be awesome! I just cycle through the nodes using my panel.

hi, how can i make it so that a node only affects the previous node? example: i am in the color tab. node 1 is film grain and node 2 is blur. i only want to blur the grain, but not the entire video.

Hey Josh, thanks for these... can I ask how you're seeing the output of node 20 without an output signal? Cheers, Danny - Adelaide.
@JoshuaKirkNZ
@JoshuaKirkNZ Жыл бұрын
You can view what is happening in the node by selecting your highlight mode. You should see your signal up to that point with highlight mode. Is that what you are meaning?

Joshua... quick question: downloaded the node tree. good stuff. but I am not seeing any changes on the KEYBASE node. what am I missing?
@JoshuaKirkNZ
@JoshuaKirkNZ Жыл бұрын
That’s for you to make any adjustments prior to pulling a key if you want. You could add some contrast and saturation, or a color space transform etc.
@jamesoreilley2557
@jamesoreilley2557 Жыл бұрын
Mark, the keybase and qualifier nodes are not connected to the output so nothing will be seen unless you activate the highlight function ( found under the view menu, Shift H or via the BM panel.) The highlight mode is normally used to view a qualification selection but in this case can be used to "overlay "the keybase node corrector parameters which are fed into the qualifier nodes. The beauty of keeping these nodes separate from the rest of node tree is you are able to apply a correction (exposure, contrast, Color Space transform etc) in the keybase node separate and independent from the rest of the node tree without "Passing on" that correction into the node tree as it only affects the qualification selections which are then feed to a downstream corrector node where the actual correction parameters for the qualifier node is done via the key out and input connections. Joshua may have left out the highlight mode instruction as an "easter egg" discovery for fellow Resolve Powerusers. :) Thanks Joshua for your insightful and informative videos.
