This is remarkably timely for me. I'm just at this same point in building a 00 12 fret parlor guitar - and although this isn't my first instrument it will be my first binding/purfling. As you can imagine I'm pretty uptight about it. After trying all my options on scrap wood - I just decided yesterday to go this exact route because it seems to be the least risky. It's always helpful to see how an expert does it - with the same tools. Thanks for letting me watch! Wish me luck.

Wishing you luck David and glad the timing this video is on point for you! Let me know how it went..

Hi Tomy, Beautiful work. What fitting did you use on your rotary tool to allow you to control both ends like that?
Thanks Tony I will be getting a gramil now! I use a laminate router but I typically have to do some hand work on my upper bouts (acoustic guitars) this might be the solution. It will definitely aid post routing
@HovingtonInstruments5 жыл бұрын
I would definitely think that the Gramil will help for the upper bouts.

What is that Dremel thingy?
@markhusbands20374 жыл бұрын
Wow. What is the attachment on the rotary tool that allows for the sideways routing? Just a grinder or...?
@HovingtonInstruments4 жыл бұрын
It’s a Dremel router attachment. www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/tools-by-job/tools-for-binding/binding-router-guide.html

Lars de Waardt still on the fence about it all. The new algorithm isn’t working well for the maker community and even less for the instrument maker. I’ve been really busy lately with 2 Octave Mandolin 2 ukes, a guitar and a A style Mandolin and was able to get a lot of work done in a small amount of time. Will definitely focus more on that aspect moving forward. Maybe more tips and tricks rather than full build videos. But I will definitely complete the Mandocello building series..

Reminder to please buy from your local hardware store, check and see if they have things first before you go to Amazon. No, not Ace, not Home Depot, LOCAL! We have to support each other so we can have businesses rather than just working for a national storefront as a cashier or whatever.

Salut Tomy! I thought the Mandocello was finished? Are you planning any new builds? nice Gramil build by the way.
@HovingtonInstruments5 жыл бұрын
I took a break from YT. The new algorithm is making me rethink the whole video making thing. I still want to finish the Mandocello series and share it so I’ve put it aside for awhile. As for new builds , at the moment I have 2 Octave Mandolin body ready for binding, 2 Uke halfway done, one OM guitar started and one almost completed. Also an A5 Mandolin... So pretty busy still, just not as many videos...

@@HovingtonInstruments Many content creators have been unhappy with the changes. I would definitely love to see all your new builds. Maybe, doing some live feeds would be less difficult and still allow for some new videos and for you to touch base with us.

Thanks for showing the detail. That really helps. It’s scary thinking you could ruin your guitar at this point.
