I’ve used this jig quite a few times, but still found myself unsure of the proper setup. Your video, (which I watched as a refresher), filled in all the blanks for me. I really enjoyed your “no-nonsense” style, which kept the video short and yet extremely informative. That’s a big thumbs-up from me. Hope this message finds anybody reading it healthy, wealthy and wise!

This is the way I process info too. Very grateful for your wonderful tutorial. I was confused by this jig and not sure how to use it. I now also see why I should get the $99 version not the $45 version. I like this one a lot. Sad that it costs so much. We need some competition for pricing. But at least it is made in the US (of imported materials!), so it will be accurate and not wildly off like Chinese stuff. Subscribed.

At 4:32, when you turn the clamp all the way back, can it clamp to 4x4 material or a 2x4 on the 4" side?
@JustSayN2O Жыл бұрын
Phenomenal tutorial ! However there is no instruction on how to center the work piece within the jig in order to have the pocket holes equidistant from the edges of the work piece. Perhaps there is a guide on the jig? (Like there is a drill collar guide). Or maybe you just have to eyeball it. I hope not. I like things exact. So what's the trick? Thank you !
@TB-rx2ht2 жыл бұрын
Awesome video - you explained everything clearly. Can I use this if the board I have is 6"wide?
@_Shopfix2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You can use this jig on any boards regardless of how wide the lumber is. Some people have made Kreg jig wooden extensions so much wider boards can be supported on the jig.
@PilgrimPiper2 жыл бұрын
Fantastic video. Does this work with 4x4 or is there another tool ? Also, I cant find where to buy this tool. Everywhere I check says unavailable, but, this is a new video. Any ideas to help would be great. Very nice work here
@_Shopfix2 жыл бұрын
I’ve never tried using a 4x4 on the jig but you can certainly put pocket holes in 4x4s even if a Kreg jig is setup for 2x4s you can drill into larger material and it’ll work it just won’t be positioned right in the center of the 4x4 if that makes sense. You might need to buy a Kreg jig that you can just clamp onto the 4x4 instead of the k4 jig if the lumber doesn’t fit within the clamp provided on the k4.
@ame7165 Жыл бұрын
good video, but like every other one I've seen, it skips I detail I can't seem to find info on. is there no pilot hole for the end of the piece and for the piece you're going to attach your drilled piece to? are the screws just self-tapping? what if you're concerned about the piece cracking without a pilot hole?
@_Shopfix Жыл бұрын
The board you drill into to make the pocket hole is the pilot hole for that board. The joint doesn’t require a pilot hole for the piece your attaching it to. There’s really no easy way to put a pilot hole in the other board especially one with any accuracy. Unless you had a really long thin drill bit that would go through the pocket hole and into the other piece while it’s clamped together before you put the screw in but I don’t think that’s necessary at all!
@ame7165 Жыл бұрын
@@_Shopfix ok cool, so i guess i just need to buy a lot more clamps to make sure everything's locked into place before i do the screwing part. i always seem to get the pieces to move when i try that step so i guess lack of enough clamping is the problem. my brain just associated pilot holes with the screws pulling everything into alignment during the screwing part, but i guess that's wishful thinking. thanks for the quickly reply!
@_Shopfix Жыл бұрын
@@ame7165 Yes clamping everything in place is your best bet! If you have everything clamped down tight into position the screws should drive right into place with no problems!

@mickeyflanagan40198 ай бұрын
So you set the jig and the collar based on the thickness of the material that you are going to be screwing a board to. As opposed to the thickness of the board that you are drilling into? Is that correct? Thanks.
@michaelmccoy49898 ай бұрын
Adjust the jig for the piece you're putting the pocket in, and the screw is based off the piece you're screwing it to. Ex. A 2x4 with pockets to a 3/4 board. Set jig to 1-1/2" and use the 1-11/4 screw to join it.
@mickeyflanagan40198 ай бұрын

if I have a 15mm thick which length of screw do I use and where I put the kreg jig
@_Shopfix2 жыл бұрын
15mm thick would be about 5/8ths, so I would use the 5/8ths mark on the jig and you'll use a 1" screw.
