If you use Air8, you know the cost. With that in mind, you can get the rollaerator. Its expensive, but its so fast. Just aerating at the end of the season is ok, but if you want fluffy soil you’ll need to be someone who has an aerator and compost spreader. Top dressing your lawn after aeration. Dethatch, aerate, seed, top dress. If you have the right tools, this is the most satisfying part of lawncare. And for anyone saying they don’t have space for a rollaerator, dethatcher and roll spreader, I think its a shame you can’t problem solve, because its so fun to see this type of results.

I also use a rollerator on my 6000 square foot yard. It is a good workout for my 81 year old body.

The manual aerators are great for barespots or slightly larger areas. I suppose you could use these and do small sections of the lawn over time.

A rolleraerator people talk about are useless on a clay soil and I have that yellow one and for a little section here or there its ok but it gets plugged up all the time.

I have a small area that seemed hard, so I was shoving my pitchfork in it and wiggling it back and forth to break it up. Not a ton, just enough to kind of crack the soil. But it can go deeper than those which is nice. Seems to have helped, but oh MAN it was a lot of work haha
@LawnAmateur

When I was younger I aerated my whole yard (3200 sqft) with something similar to the black one you have. I did it over several weeks. But now that im older theres no way Ill do that again. I been using this manual aerator called the Rollaerator for the pass 6 years or so. It makes manual aerating a lot easier and faster. Its kind of on the expensive side for what it is but I think its worth it.

I'm convinced that the Amick aerator roller that Yard Bruh uses is the best manual aerator. I plan to purchase one this winter when the prices go down.

This is the one you can aerate every month like the golf courses do! I doubt the price will come down. This piece of equipment will do wonders with a compost spreader right after! The Amick rollaerator!

If I dethatch my whole lawn with a machine like sunjoe. Do I have to aerate after with a seperate tool or does the dethatcher rip it up enough? Great content!
@LawnAmateur

I have a two-tine manual core aerator. I have found that if I keep my foot placed on the aerator and then use my whole body weight it reduces the amount of jarring my foot has to undergo and is more effective than trying to smash my foot on the tool and using my leg strength to drive it in. For me, this reduces the amount of muscle fatigue and is more effective in going deep. YMMV, especially for different soil types. Also, when clearing cores stuck in the tines using a screwdriver, I found it is more effective to insert it in the bottom of the tine and push it towards the top where the cores are normally ejected. This is easier at removal because the tine's internal diameter is normally narrower at the bottom than at the top. However, if you get a rock jammed in the tine, you might have to knock it out from the top.

I have the yellow one like you, then upgraded to another type with springs on it. They both suck. The cores will get stuck and then you have to battle trying to get the cores out with a screw driver. Best tip I can give is use these type of tools when the lawn has the proper moisture levels, and even then you will have clogs. If you do it on a dry soil you will get alot of clogs. I gave up on these tools, and in fall I will shell out the bucks to either rent the aerator machine or pay someone to do it.

Great video. I like to dethatch in the fall once a year with my Greenworks machine, which I got at Lows. But core aerating? Holy moly is that a workout even with the machine. So I might try that once every three years. But I won't lie; it's kind of scary. Have a good day.

I’ll order a new one 😂😂😂. I do get a workout when using the manual core aerator, spike shoes not so bad. My brother has 1800sqft and uses spike shoe aerator 😂😂😂. Good video ❤

@@LawnAmateur I never looked at it that way this is true. Also since you told me raise my HOC, it’s working. I raised it, did a spike aeration and applied some Root Ruckus, Green Envy, FourPlay and Dawn dish liquid and a pinch of Ammonium Sulfate. I’m a sprayer, I love to spray. I’m looking good for the heat so far. Also been deep watering 6am and 5pm it’s been so dry here in Maryland
