Me and my brother catch our killies fish bait that we use for flounder/fluke in smalls creeks in the bay. Ball some doe or some bread tightly balled up and place it in the middle. Doormats size we catch with our bait. We get there around 3 or 4 am and then we try to be at the point by 6am. Best time is almost high or full tide. Atlantic Islands Bay out of Sandy Hook Beach NJ. Take the ends from aloaf of bread, squeeze into a ball. If not, it will float and the minnows will stay outside the trap and feed. If you want crayfish(crawdads) use (canned) catfood made with a fish by-product. They will be hard-shelled. If you want soft-shell, wade the shallow creeks @ night. They CANNOT come out in the heat of the day, they will swim to the banks. Tips from East KY.

Thank you. I never thought about it like that. If the bread does float, then the minnows could probably nibble it on the outside without coming in, but if you remove the buoyancy, then it might force them to come in the trap. Great inside knowledge.

Can't say I've seen a wire mesh minnow trap before. The glass minnow traps in moving water, like a creek, baited with crushed crackers, gather lots of minnows in a short time. They are available on Amazon.

cool vid, i always wanted to get a minnow trap, but heres a simple knot you can do, really simple, also its never came loose on me so its a good knot, heres my fav knot its called a palomar knot, very simple

I've tried a bunch of different baits but usually catch crawdads(hard shells)and little b.gills. So I fish for my bait. I use my ultra lite small bobber with a ice fly tipped with a little red worm. Its fun and don't know what I'm going to pull out. I'll use the b.gills for flatheads. I scale them(live) and use a slip bobber to keep it as close to the bottom with out snagging it. Cover more area that way in rivers.

Cast nets only work well if you know where a large school of minnows or other species of baitfish is shoaling. Otherwise, the minnow trap is the way to go.

They work for chubs and shiners and yes just the bones with just a lil meat on them not too much tho caught a good 2 dozen within an hr and a half give it a try sometime

is it best to let the minnow bucket lay on the bottom or should it be tied off from a dock right off the bottom

The two look quite similar when they are juveniles, but the minnow in this video was a Fathead Minnow, not a Creek Chub.

There should, but there would me far more (in theory) in the shallow (2-4 ft.) of water.

dude, put some bread in this and mash some inside the funnel by the hole.... also throw it in a creek, at a deeper spot in the creek, leave it overnight, imagine how full it will be.

Fail. A granola bar? Why? Eat the granola bar and use bread in your minnow trap. You'll have better success.

I used a granola bar initially because they are slow to dissolve and are used (in particle form) to catch shiner using a cast net. It was one of those "reduced fat" kind, which might have been the reason why it didn't produce. I switched to bread, later, which produced much better.

Why On Earth would you put this in Deep Water? Minnows are Small Fish, they are Eaten by Big Fish, They are going to be in a Area they can have easy cover if its available to them this is going to be grass cover, trees, and rocks in Shallow water.
