my son accidentally overdosed recently at a 'friend's' house...I was told by the peer recovery counselors that he thought he got meth but it was heroin with fentanyl. Thank God for paramedics and narcan, and thank you for this video. I feel like I need to keep some on hand in case this sort of thing happens again. : (

I'm a first responder in the San Antonio area. Great presentation. However, you sort of glossed over/didn't mention that when a sure nuff hard core addict gets a dose of Narcan they will wake up in hard withdrawal and may well be violent/aggressive and just plain batshit crazy. If you use this to save someones life, God Bless you, but protect yourself too and be prepared to defend yourself when they wake up.

I have heard of cases where doctors overprescribed these drugs and fit people with sports injuries became junkies. One drug nicknamed "Hillbilly Herione" is regularly abused in New Zealand. There should be better control of how it is administered and better records of how much each person can get.

Great video. I've been curious about this. Question: If they are not breathing or barely breathing, how does the nasal spray get into the body to be effective? Do the vapors just getting into the sinus cavity pass directly into the bloodstream there without needing to go to the lungs?

lol My little 10 mg Oxycodone pills were barely enough to ease any pain from my first knee replacement. Damn they hurt! I think my Doc gave me 40 the first time and when I asked for a refil, 30 the next. I could not of slept at all due to pain without them, ruthless really. I am not looking forward to my next replacement in 3 months I can tell you... Oxy for post surgery, Zilretta injections preop when you have a 6 month wait. I call Zilretta, "The hand of God". Don't have Narcan kits, not usually a pain killer taker and I physically wrote down EVERY dose/time I took the Oxy and I do not drink or take any other drugs that I do not research for myself for contraindications..

[Québec, Canada] Not trying to be funny and not sure if this is in the same category but when I was around 10 years old, there was this time when I thought I saw my Mother 'hide' a personal stash of her own chocolate bar in the cupboard and so one day I decided to sneak a piece when she wasn't looking (had to leap up and stand up on the counter top to be able to reach it), any who, There it was all perfect in its aluminum wrapping, I quickly opened it and snapped off a couple pieces (maybe more), closed the cupboard and took off into my room where I devoured the chocolate. It did taste a bit funny but that didn't matter for me at the time. A little while after, all I could remember is running to the bathroom with aches and pain in the lower abdomen, even after having 'emptied myself'. Well you probably guessed it, the chocolate was in fact what we called ex-lax (something to do with when someone is constipated). Don't know if one can actually overdose on this type of medication so I shared anyhow.

If it’s not street drugs I would guess they are in a diabetic coma. In that case, if they are u conscious and cannot swallow, find something like honey or even BBQ sauce and smear it on their gums. Ideally the carbohydrate/ sugar you give is thick like a paste but use whatever you have. Just try to keep it on he gums so they don’t choke on it. Another guess, low potassium. Lemon juice or orange juice etc. trip to ER in any case. Right?

Not sure this is related, but do you guys have any opinion on using extremely low dose Naltrexone 1 to 5mg (custom compounded) to help relieve post-chemotherapy pain? I am taking Lyrica and Celebrex for arthritis and overall low grade pain post-chemotherapy, but trying this because I am still suffering with pain and it is lowering my quality of life. I have seen a few studies supporting this but my insurance did not cover it. The studies support no more than 5mg or the effect is lost.

Next time have to re/fill a prescription medication following a postoperative procedural repair, and drug store pharmacy technician or actual small town pharmacist proceeds to verbally/nonverbally converses with strong condescending tone of voice, continuing on with accusation directed, judgmental at an innocent suffering customer, a good response to the tech may be inquiring if they’d fancy receiving a brisk round-house sternal rub, maybe then ask why their pupils are so small and potentially start shaking them 😅 jkjk … How about we bring awareness for betterment to the NON-opioid-abusing innocent patient population whom are legitimately recovering from the intensive, yet precise beating received in the operating room by those beastly, highly intelligent and amazing orthopedic surgeons… These patients continually incur seemingly purposeful, obnoxious and berating commentary, unnecessary delays, overall actual abuse etc from literally every level of (supposed)medical professionals; minus of course the actual surgical team… aside from writing letters to the medical licensing board. How would one go about stopping this poor behavior? (Let’s not forget the cancer patients and other suffers) Anyway, I appreciate everything you guys do! Take care!
