→ ABOUT THIS CHANNEL
Hi, my name is Alexis but I’m also known as @MissTrenchcoat all across the internet. I’m an online entrepreneur who helps ambitious women plan for a balanced, successful life and business! I design productivity tools, classes and courses based on the latest productivity science and research. Welcome to my KZbin channel where I make regular videos on the topics of productivity, planning and online business to help you get all your big thoughts, plans, dreams and ideas out of your head and onto paper so you can get down to business creating your dream life! I teach a unique approach to productivity that focuses less on the daily grind and more on gaining clarity on your priorities and goals. To me, the answer to upleveling your productivity isn't hustle, hustle hustle! The answer I have found is to get your mind clear on what you want to achieve, and then creating a simple, streamlined strategy to help you make it happen. From experience I have found, if you get your head in the right place and then plan better, you will end up having to take less action which saves so much time, energy and stress! I welcome you to join me with an open mind and a notebook, because if you are ready to learn a better path to productivity, I have a lot to teach you!

Your inbox looks like the one from the GTD method. I have to say, I tried implementing this kind of inbox but it doesn't work for me. But as I haven't read the book yet, I will give it another try before I completely let go of this kind of inbox. Thank you again for the infos you shared, they're very valuable.

So glad to have this video come up. It does beg a question however. How is this different to a Master Task List?

Great question- The Inbox is for you to capture any new tasks. Once you process the tasks and you have an expectation of if and when you will work on the task, it may be a task you want to deal with later. If later is still this month, it can be put on your Master Monthly Task List for the month, or for another month if you want to assign it to a specific month to work on. If you need to do the task today, you can put the task on your to do list for the day and there really is no reason to put it on the Master Monthly Task List- just do it and check it off. Tasks go on the Monthly Master Task List when we know we want to accomplish them in a month, so that list becomes the task list we choose tasks from each week or day to create our plans. The Planner Inbox is actually similar to Brain dump Inserts, in that it is simply a list of things you become aware of before you decide how you want to prioritize them. I actually tend to use my Brain dump inserts as my Planner Inbox, which could work for some people, but generally the new tasks that pop up while we are working are often more immediate to dos or are at least within the context of our work, and keeping them on a inbox specific insert is likely more organized than adding them to a cluttered braindump sheet.

@@MissTrenchcoat Great response Alexis. I was also perplexed about differentiating the Brain Dump. Your prompting with this video motivated me to use the one list for gathering task during the day, keeping my brain dump and monthly tasks separate. I also had the habit of adding tasks within client files which are good for tracking clients tasks, but not effective for ensuring the tasks are completed because the tasks are hidden in different gathering places. I am reconsidering my process and revising to update the client file only when the task is complete - client file is then a history document; not a task tracking document.

Agree with all of above, this is a great process! I see the braindump function in two ways: 1) get all the info out of your head and onto paper so you don’t forget your ideas at the start of a project so you can organize from there and/or 2) getting info out of your head about general to-do items. But then you take the items from the braindump and organize it with assigned actions - whether into your monthly task-list or into your weekly/daily task-list; but if something comes up during the workday, it’s not a braindump (something to just get out of your head that you haven’t organized yet), it’s something that you know needs to be done and now you’re going to list it in your “inbox” to ensure you don’t forget the task and ensure it gets added to the appropriate to-do list! 🎉 The priority inbox is like an analog email inbox 😂

This it a tool I was about to work on.because I have constantly informations that pop up from different sources and I need to organize them until I can work on them. Right now I have a spot on my daily page (mainly where I keep my meeting/projects notes) a "next action" where I list things I wasn't expecting to work on and to dos that came up from the meeting/projects. I am working on getting in the habit of checking it often to make the items actionable: right now I review the items once a week, unless I already know I have a deadline, but now I am wondering if a specific page might be best or a distraction. Also... I am my own boss, so it adds a challenge to the process LOL
