My cousin had one of these and swore by it. I never believed him. He said that the Plumb Bob changed his life. Last Christmas he got me one for my birthday. Never thinking I'd bet use it, I just threw it in my car. Well about two years ago, I was taking some groceries to my car after leaving the grocery store, and some guys came up and tried to mug me. Thinking fast, I grabbed the plumb bob from my car and swung it over by head, hitting one of my would be attackers square in the face. He stumbled back and then they all ran away. That day I truly understood the raw power of the plumb bob, and no I carry one anywhere I go, except the airport because mine sets off the metal detectors.

Thanks for the lesson on plumb bobs. I was calling it a plumb line, but now understand that a plumb bob makes a plumb line! I am teaching on Zechariah 4:10 where God says through the prophet that He "rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” Just thought you might enjoy the idea that your video was helpful in the ministry world too! Thank you, again, and God bless you. :)

You're a tool and you don't even see it. Wake up and see how stupid icons like Tyler Durden and celebrities are just wasting you away. Turn to Jesus. Only Jesus can save you from this wretched world which will break you down and bring you to it's wicked level. Believe that His work on the cross (death and resurrection on the 3rd day) is sufficient to cleanse you of all sins if you also repent (turn away from your sins) and FOLLOW Him - this is how you are saved.

I keep mine hanging from the ceiling when not using it to detect distant earthquakes. Otherwise I use it a lot for leveling my photography tripod and centering it just right over spots I marked or marking spots. I often leave markers for a certain composition and return later during better lighting or weather.

A plumb bob works purely from gravity. It’s a perfect tool “relatively”. However be aware if the slab that holds up the stick frame is not level, the stick frame may not be square to a perfectly plumb line.

If you have a plumb bob, you dont need a level. So many things this tool is useful for.Take a 90-degree square off of the plumb line, you have a perfect level. This is a very accurate tool. More accurate than a cheap level by far.

Wow, I made one in college once but it didn't look anything like you had lol. It had a brass end and the overall size was like 30mm or something. I didn't think much of it because I was a level 2 student, but now that were level 3 we have made more complex things like an air engine, currently in the workshop I am making an axle body or something. It's supposed to be 67 in diameter and I think 56mm long.

It's as accurate as you can get. One little tip is to tack a nail or screw where you want to drop it from, wrap the string around the nail, and then you can let it settle down and make your mark.

I came here to learn how to assemble it and now I know, so thanks a lot. However, I think your demonstration is a little sloppy. It would help to have a second pair of hands and eyes to guide your precision. @ 2:58 your string is not long enough, and the bob is still swinging and not steady . There is more value in your explanation than your demonstration. Otherwise great video. Whoever watches it still gets the point.

The Simpsons brought me here lol Season 27, Episode 22 Some guy working for Mr Burns starts singing this while his cranking the plumb bob machine thingy lol: "One must never, never rush...the plumb bob. Slow is the way, the only way to go. Clear your schedule, before you use the plumb bob. Yes, the plumb bob, is mighty, mighty, mighty... Slow.........(Carrying note til scene cuts out)" ... *Shows Homer looking at his wristwatch with worry in his eyes. then the screen cuts to black* yep. thats how that pretty much went down in the show. god i hate my life, wish i was dead

They are not perpendicular or parallel to the earth, it is to the direction of the force of gravity. Plumb therefore is in line with the pull of gravity. Level is perpendicular to the force of gravity. Thanks for the video though, I’m learning carpentry and love learning every way things can be done :)
