Good ole peanut, gets me everytime

I have never done that with a tractor before, but it is much simpler than the technique we used while growing up using a horse and plow. Now that I'm retired my thought was of growing my own country garden since we have plenty of space to do it.

If you're handy you can weld pieces of rebar off the back that lift the taters up higher. Works great then. Without rebar just works good. I've had one for years.
@galehess66763 жыл бұрын
How many pieces, how long, and how are they oriented? (parallel to the ground?).
@erikvaldur33343 жыл бұрын
@@galehess6676 about 18" to 20" long , longer if you like . Space them around 2" or less apart so the taters won't fall through. Run them up a little in the back from parallel with the ground. My potato plow lips up in the back of the spade. They follow that angle real nicely and it helps the potatoes lift up pretty nicely without bringing up much dirt. I wait a week after a rain so the soil is less clumpy when harvesting.

I just bought one of these middle busters for my Massey Ferguson GC1725M. Specifically for potatoes, tomorrow we are planning on digging them to the top using this attachment. Hope it will work.

I have a GC1723E. How did this work for your potatoes?
@googlreviews78132 жыл бұрын
@@zacktube100 It worked very well, I was shocked how well it worked. I did record a video doing it, I'll try to upload it and I'll leave a link.

How much HP do you need for this type of plow? I have a lot of rocks from small to about 75 pounds on my land. I've removed by hand all in the garden area, but I wonder if I'd tear the plow apart ifI used it to clear more land on rocks? Theanks.

useless tool the tractor wheels will run directly down the adjoining row or do you plant your potatoes 7 feet apart ?
@semco7205714 жыл бұрын
@shelmarie87 My grandfather always planted potatoes separately from the rest of the crops.
@MrjackieG13 жыл бұрын
@shelmarie87 In northern climates you spray the potatoes with acid killing the tops then leave them in the ground for 10 to 14 days. This toughens the skin and provides you with a more uniform potato crop..

Hey Ted...why do some potato plows have forks coming out of the back and this one doesn't? Not sure how to describe it but I've seen some with small bars sticking straight out the back of the plow.

@guyh.45536 жыл бұрын
All that is is a sweep. There needs to be some kind of rake or something to keep the spuds from being buried. Good for furrows tho

Harvest?? Isn’t that when you collect the end product? I think trench for planting, or row furrow for spuds, would be more accurate. You’ll scar and bust em if you dig em up with that.

you made this video in 2009...haven't you harvested potatoes yet? i'd like to see how it works with potatoes.
@Z71Ranger14 жыл бұрын
looks like your potatoes did not produce any, they don't grow good in red clay soil.. Did you use fertilizer and keep them watered? Also you may have used to much nitrogen. Or did you plant them to deep? Or did that plow not ever get deep enough to get them to the top of the ground. I sure would like to see how big the potatoes where.
@jimmason10725 жыл бұрын
Sounds like someone else should be driving the tractor. Then I am sure everything would be perfect!

if you want to show how to dig potatoes ,you should dig potatoes so we can see them come up ,i don't think that it will do the job that good.

For decades, people have been using these to dig potatoes. We also offer a pto powered potato digger for the more serious growers. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4e4hWmFgqqMjrM

People have been using these to dig potatoes for 50+ years. Are there more sophisticated, pricey tools for the job? Yes, but this beats the manual approach. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I think even longer than 50 yrs...I've seen very old ones designed to be pulled by an animal that are made with a metal blade on a wood frame and handles toward the rear.
