Please note: “A year-long investigation into federal procurement revealed that BTNX, a small rapid test supplier based outside Toronto, deleted dozens of specimens, or samples, from a study it submitted to Health Canada. That evaluation showed how well the company’s test detected COVID-19. The deletions made BTNX’s test appear more reliable and sensitive than it really was, according to researchers Global News consulted. Read more here about how Global News’ investigation unfolded. The device could detect the virus in users who were the most contagious, but results from leading regulators’ evaluation programs indicate BTNX’s test was much less dependable in all other cases.”globalnews.ca/news/10183219/covid-test-supplier-canada/

Swabbing back of throat prior to nostrils (update in description) makes sense. The original technique was an ambitious and uncomfortable nasopharyngeal reach to farthest end of the nasal passage where it meets the pharynx/throat. That required the long tool and tilting the head back. Current two-pronged approach shouldn't require any particular head tilt to hit the spots. I suggest to minimize sneeze reflex turn off overhead lights and in any case don't look up.

Also in Ontario, they are not always available in the pharmacy. I picked up mine at the grocery store.

Well this is nice - it would be great to do this in BC as well.

Performed the nasopharyngeal swab in both nostrils on myself without difficulty. Did not hurt. Used a hand held mirror in the bathroom mirror to ensure swab was horizontal. Try it.

Great advice, thank you. Swabbing the mouth and throat - though not official guidance has also been suggested by numerous Dr’s and scientists in Canada. Thank you for the helpful comment!

thanks for making this helpful video, I am having covid19, but test result is negative, what does mean negative and positive?
@FriendlyPharmacy53 ай бұрын
Negative would mean that if you are sure have COVID-19, you may be testing too soon, or you may not have gotten enough of a sample size. Swabbing the throat can also be helpful. Currently, I have seen it being recommended that you test every 2 days while symptomatic, as some of these tests are only showing a positive result at around day 4 of symptoms. I hope this helps!

I though the tests in US were manually complicated if you have tremors. This seems even more so. And why post this how-to video now? Did Canada just authorize use of this test so late "in the game"??
@FriendlyPharmacy52 жыл бұрын
Hello Joy, these tests just became available to us here in Canada (from the govt) a few weeks ago. This is the government supply. Other tests have been available for purchase. Pharmacies are now dispensing these for no cost across Canada so it is fairly recent.

I’m so glad - on both accounts! There are many reports of positives only after day 3-4 of symptoms now with these newer variants, so it is good to keep that in mind.
