SH is not for sample and hold, but because synthesizer in japanese is Shinse (シンセ) there fore the first line of synthesizer from Roland start with SH. As simple as that 😉

Wow i think this is the best Synth Walkthrough i‘ve ever seen. 👍 Thank you very much ☺️
@tonelab2 жыл бұрын
Thanks.. and you're welcome 🤓..I recommend the Juno Synth walk-throughs too.. particularly, the Juno-6 walk-through.. it's almost like a bigger 'polyphonic' version of the 101.. great 'first synth' or way to learn about 'subtractive synthesis' ☺🙏🏻kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJywoqqKhtOLeLM

I have very fond memories of my grey sh101, my first synth. I've never seen it in other colours.

yeah my first was Blue.. and for my 7th birthday I got a copy of the Wrestling Album 😆 .. and there was a guy on the cover with the Pink/Red 101 😮👍🏼

I bought mine a few months after it came out. It's a brilliant little synth and always seems to fit in the mix

True! I used to control mine from either my 808 or my 202.. so easy to pull a great sound on them too 👌🏼

Nice, you're a repair guy?! ..throw down your area code if you like, anyone from your area reading this in need of a synth service they can look you up 👍🏼

this is the most concise video about the 101 that i’ve ever watched. Is it normal to cut the sound if I push the envelope all the way up?
@tonelab3 ай бұрын
Thank you 🙏🏻 ... The ENV will cut the sound out.. but I can only say that will occur when other sliders are in context. So, try copying the settings I have in this clip and adjust your FREQ, the ENV & RES.. and you'll see what I mean 🙏🏻 kzbin.infovYguxarnbjo

If you are learning to use the Roland S-1, here are the labels/menus on the S-1 that map back to similar SH-101 functions (SH-101 -> S-1): Monophonic mode: Shift + Poly TUNE: TUNE -> Shift + Range VCO (Oscillator): MOD -> LFO PULSE WIDTH -> Shift + Square wave knob VCO Mode (Right of pulse width) -> Shift + PWM Src (LFO is on by default) SOURCE MIXER (Oscillator): Sub Oscillator Mode/Octave -> Shift + SUB OCT VCF (Filter): KYBD -> Shift + FILTER KYBD (then adjust values MOD -> LFO VCA: VCA Mode -> Shift + Amp ENV: ENV mode -> Shift + ENV TRG

Hey thanks very much 🙏🏻 how does the SH01a stack up next to the original? 🤓
@acaposotta2 жыл бұрын
@@tonelab honestly absolutely close in my opinion. I also love the upgraded LFO.

Very Nice! Should be helpful once I dust off my MS-1. I often find myself starting a new patch with no memory of why I changed the ADSR/VCA to gate mode… or why the synth is laying in my bed, smelling like expensive perfume and oriental tobacco. 🤔

But none of these tips apply to the ms-1 😂

The CEM3340 was not used in the Jupiter 8. The Jupiter 8 had discreet VCOs. Great video otherwise!
@tonelab2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for pointing that out 👍🏼 ..turns out I’ve quoted a guy who claims it does in 'his' .. but, then he claims his is a Jupiter-8 Rev. A 🤔 .. regardless of whether or not that's accurate, I'll edit this out. Thanks 🙏🏻
