Oh my gosh! Once in a while a plumb drops right into your lap! This vibrant overlocker is virtually identical to my 30yo, but still going strong, Jaguar overlocker. They were made as an exclusive line to a chain department store here in Australia called Grace Brothers. I think i bought the absolute last one when they dropped their whole sewing department from their stores. I was never able to get the ‘4 free Learn to use your Overlocker’ classes, because -no more sewing department. But I’ve managed to fumble along over the years. This tutorial series you’ve done has been a god send, what a stroke of luck! I couldn’t believe my eyes when you opened up the front covers and there were the gizzards out of my Jaguar. The needle pad, the spot for an optional tape measure underneath it, the 2 thread converter, everything! Honestly, if i was standing in front of you right now i’d give you such a bone crushing hug! 💕💖💕

You can use 4 threads when you're sewing the entire garment on your serger, or even when you're just finishing the seam allowances. Some people use 3 threads only when finishing the allowance. I think it's a matter of preference.

Hi Anita! I’m in the market for a new serger, and in my research I found your channel. I love the way you explain the Vibrant, and I have a couple of opinion questions for you. Here goes . . . I used to have a Babylock Imagine. But I sold it after moving into smaller living quarters. I’m sorry I did, because I now want to get back into sewing. My Imagine was wonderful. But I never used it to it’s full potential. I was, and still am, only interested in having nice, neat seams. I don’t care so much about manually threading the machine. But I do worry about manual tension adjustments. I never had to do that with the Imagine. Others have told me that manual adjustment is really troublesome. Is it really? Babylock has now replaced the Imagine with another model. But I wonder whether automatic adjustment really justifies the $1,000+ investment for the upgrade from Vibrant. Long way to get to my questions. But I look forward to your answer/suggestions.
@AnitabyDesign4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ana! I actually haven't had to adjust the tension on the Vibrant much and I've had it for about 8 months. If I had to adjust the tensions every time, yes it would probably get on my nerves. I'm at a point in my life where I'm willing to pay for convenience "if I'm able". Once you've had a taste of the goodness of not having to bother with tension adjustments, you may want to consider if going back to the manual option will drive you crazy. LOL! I guess it depends on what's most important to you, If saving money is crucial at this time then the manual option would be best, but later on when you're able to make that financial investment you can upgrade. If convenience is more important then I would say make the investment and upgrade. The initial cost will pay for itself over time in the form of peace of mind. LOL! But again, I haven't had to change the tension much and I've used different thicknesses and textures of fabric on the Vibrant. I hope this helps.
@anamolleda38164 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Well, I purchased the Vibrant today. I tried it out at my local sewing center in Sacramento, and I thought it fit the bill exactly for where I am now in my sewing journey. I’m so happy that I came across your videos in my research. They influenced my purchase. Perhaps, later on, I will invest in the more advanced serger/cover stitch combo. I forget the name of the model. But I have my eye on that one for the future.

Hi. Why there needs to be long loop chain before serging and after?
@AnitabyDesign5 жыл бұрын
iwonabr Hi there. You just want to have enough thread at the end to reach the cutter. Also, sometimes you will want to feed the thread tail back through the stitches if you’re not sewing across that seam, so the tail will need to be long enough. The long thread before serging is just what’s left after the last stitching.
