Nice work. I needed some inspiration for a convertible header I'm repairing. I need to bend a channel for the tack strip and it's proving to be a little difficult to get right.

This tool will do it, there are really expensive shrinker / stretchers BUT I bought this one at harbor freight, it's very affordable. Good luck with the tack strip channel

I love that cut off tool you often use. It can be seen at 0:30 but I don't even know what it's called so I can get one myself.

Gees made that look easy. You should still wipe down panel with prepsol or paint prep or whatever to remove the finger grease. Looks good.

I just went through all of this with my 65 Impala (window frames and trunk seal gutter) and wanted to check out how you guys did it. As a do it yer selfer, I don't have the shear or the brake, so I would have made that in 2 pieces and welded them together. I would like to have all of that stuff... but there just isn't enough room in the garage

Awesome work! Approximately how many amps are you using on your TIG?
@guzzifabrication3448
@guzzifabrication3448 Жыл бұрын
That was a couple of years ago, don't recall but the rule of thumb is 1 amp per 1000th inch thickness of material.

Lovin these vids mate, did you grind the weld smooth? If so what do you use on such thin material? Keep em comin! Greetings from England 👍🏼
@guzzifabrication3448
@guzzifabrication3448 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I dressed the welds, I first used a 3M Green Corps Reinforced Weld Grinding Wheel, 01991, 3 in x 3/16 in x 3/8 in on the edge of the weld then a flap wheel to blend, and finished the area with a mini 3" dual action sander with 80 grit. I didn't get too aggressive grinding, just knock down and blend the weld. Thanks for watching !

Thanks for the lesson . Just subscribed man. PS : do you use rust remover or rust converter to chemically remove small rust dots/spots in nooks and crannies after getting to bare metal?
@guzzifabrication3448
@guzzifabrication3448 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing ! usually rust converter or a good encapsulator like POR 15 and cover both front and back of the affected metal if possible.

I usually use like the wire brush or a pic to pick out all the little flakes of rust if there is … Or I’ll cut all that rust out and weld a new metal whatever works

I get this area is not that critical. And more panels will go over this area to rebuild the window lip. The repair left some extra metal that wasn't originally there. Not sure if you were gonna remove that or just leave it. I like to watch alot of different peoples methods on rust repair that use metal instead fillers. Nice Job.

When you have a 3/4 wide flange like that only insert it half way into the shrinker. When you bury it all the way in it will pull the piece into a curve in the Y axis as well as the X. If you go half way it will only curve in the X axis.
@guzzifabrication3448
@guzzifabrication3448 Жыл бұрын
The piece formed exactly the way I intended....usually when people start talking x axis - y axis on a simple 90... that usually shows more book time than seat time..... thanks for watching

@@guzzifabrication3448 I used to have issues with edges deforming in 2 dimensions sometimes, but I caught that tip about only inserting the flange part way into the tool from both Lazze Metal Shaping and Wray Schelin at Pro Shaper Sheet Metal. It solved the problem. Gene Winfield famously quips “Every day Is a school day” and he’s 95 years old. Good luck with your channel.
