How to use a silicone mold by LaCupella Refined Mold to decorate your cake or other sugar projects with fondant/gumpaste/sugarpaste.
This method is intended for medium to large silicone mold cavities but will work just as good on smaller mold cavities. The one showed in the video is measured 3" x 3" (square victorian ornament)

Thank you ever so much for this tutorial. I never thought of rolling out the fondant. I used to take a lump of it and try to press it into the crevices. No wonder the impression would be so untidy!

thank you for this tutorial. very easy to follow. i have a quick question. if i make these ahead of time and leave to dry does it becaome too hard to attach on a fondant covered cake? will the mold designs break? thank you
@nashernash
@nashernash 8 жыл бұрын
They become rigid, so will not attach to a rounded cake smoothly unless left to dry on a rounded surface the same size as the cake it is to be put on. It would attach fine to a flat edged cake.

Thanks so much for this video! Any benefit to leaving the fondant in the mold for a little longer?
@Lacupella
@Lacupella 4 жыл бұрын
Leaving the fondant on the mold a little longer will make the fondant slightly harden and relatively easier to demold. But you really don’t have to :) also pay attention on the mold design as well, some design will be easier to demold while the fondant’s still soft and some when it’s harder.

Thank you so much for this very informative tutorial. A good video is worth a thousand words! I'd like to use these silicone molds with pie crust and pastry dough. Great tutorial! What gum paste did you use? I bought a load of silicon moulds of ebay but I'm confused on what to use. Fondant, icing, sugar craft, sugar paste, gum... What's the difference in them all? Can you make moulds out of the same stuff you used to cover your cake? As you can tell, I'm a real rookie at this, and don't know much about cake decorating. Also, how do you stick your moulds to your cake? Is edible glue really necessary? I've been looking into the Renshaw icing/fondant/sugarpaste. Or thought about getting Dr.Otker and using cornstarch so it won't stick. Any help would be great!

If I press fondant on the bottom a metallic pumpkin-shaped cake mold, will I be able to unmold it ?
@Lacupella
@Lacupella 4 жыл бұрын
I can’t say for sure since I have never done that. But if the cavity is not too deep or too large, I think you can as long as you leave it dry fully before handling. And make sure to put some cornstarch so the fondant doesn’t stick to the pan :)

You can use it right away if you are careful not to squish it. But to paint over it, you need to let it dry for few hours depending on your environment (preferably overnight to be safe)

Okay, then what. I've seen some videos that you're supposed to put them in the freezer and then I've heard some say You're supposed to let them dry for 36 hours. What are you supposed to do? Freeze them, dry them, what?
@Lacupella

You can reduce the waiting time by putting it in the freezer, but bear in mind that it will condensate right after you take it out of the freezer. It will work just fine in dry weather but gotta be careful on humid area
