I love it now, but it took a while to get there! I was using too much pressure at first. If it helps (and if all Signature Mug presses are the same), I have a gap of 1-1/4” between the front of the bar that holds the back screws and the back of the tumbler bar that’s closest to that screw bar. I hope that makes sense! And thanks so much!

Thanks for the video. Enjoyed it very much. I'm going to have to try your method as the mugs in doing on my hpn press is taking 530 seconds at 400 degrees. Light pressure or heavy pressure doesn't make a difference. Maybe crummy mugs. I'll buy some cricut mugs and see if it makes a difference. Since i give these away its all a learning experience. Hey, Gloria! It could be a couple of things. If you’re using a press, make sure you have light pressure. And if it’s burning into the tumbler, you probably have too much time and/or temp. Thanks for watching!

Hi there! Quick question on pressure. I see you have a fairly large gap. When tumbler in the press, and pressure engaged, can the tumbler easily move?
@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
Hey! I use light pressure. That is, it’s very easy to close, but the tumbler is snug enough that it can’t be moved around. And most tumbler presses have somewhat similar gaps, but I rotate 4 times to help alleviate the gap issue. Thanks for watching!

Great video! I followed your instructions to a tee, but I had the same issues I’ve been having - the paper sticks to the tumbler, and once I get the paper removed, there are white speckled areas all over. I wash with dawn dish soap and the white comes off (revealing color underneath), but the color of the tumbler is very inconsistent, being brighter in some spots and discolored in others. Have you ever dealt with an issue similar to this? Thank you for your time!!

Great question! I actually touched on this in one of the videos. If asked, I recommend people use blowout paper in their press, but I don’t! The safety cautionary answer is to use it. That said, when I first got my press, I was so excited to use it, I forgot to add blowout paper! About 15 tumblers in, I realized, but nothing had happened, so I just kept going forward with no blowout! Thanks for watching!

Those are AMAZING! I bought a Goodcrafter press. I have not been able to get it to work. (I've only tried coffee mugs. It has ruined them all.) The problem is I'm using a black background. It's coming out a mottled streaked brown color. (Some people think it still looks okay. BUT, it's not what I was going for.) Have you tried any coffee mugs? Especially with black? If so, what settings did you use, and how did the blacks turn out?
@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
Blacks can be tricky on hard substrates. If it’s coming out brown, it’s probably getting too much time and/or too high a temperature. Check out my video on subbing mugs in the press. kzbin.info/www/bejne/enypk4eBg5x3qMU Hopefully that will help. Thanks for watching!

@@industrialfringe953 thanks! So far, my problem has been temporarily "solved" by getting a Cricut press for my mugs. Tumblers seem to be coming out okay on the Goodcrafter. I'm wondering if I'm using too much pressure on the mugs when I used the Goodcrafter. But, as the Cricut is doing things so well, I'm probably going to wait until I'm more experienced to figure that out. Definitely enjoying your videos!

How can I tell (using a tumbler press) if I'm using too much pressure or too high heat? I'm getting inconsistent results with part of the sublimated tumbler feeling rough and faint print and other parts looking shiny, bright, and perfect. Currently using 350-degrees for 110 seconds on white skinny tumblers.
@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 Жыл бұрын
Hey! So, if you’re asking if you’re using too much pressure, you probably are! I use very light pressure, just enough to clamp the tumbler into the press and not have it move around. I’m not sure how much you rotate your tumbler when you press it, but I found that 4 turns (50 seconds, 50 seconds, 25 seconds, 25 seconds) at 365 degrees gives consistent pressing. Thanks for watching!

(365 for 50 seconds, rotate 180 degrees, 50 seconds, rotate 90 degrees, 25 seconds, rotate 180 degrees, 25 final seconds. I think I was doing the final 2 presses at 20 seconds in this video. Either is fine.) My image size is 9-1/4” by just shy of 8-1/8”, but tumbler sizes do very just a little, so you always want to double-check! Thanks for watching!

Hi. I was wondering if you can assist with print smudging. It seems like I only get the smudges with black ink. I’ve tried everything and can’t figure it out. Hope to get some feedback.
@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 2 жыл бұрын
Juanita, is the smudging happening to the sub paper, or on the actual tumbler? If it’s the paper, you may not be letting it dry and/or your printer may be laying down too much ink. If it’s on the tumbler and it’s ghosting, you’ll want to wait a minute or two before removing the paper. If it’s the actual tumbler after you’ve removed the paper, you may not be using a sub tumbler, or got a bad batch. Feel free to come join the Facebook group, and I’m sure someone will be able to help! (Link in the description.) Thanks for watching!

@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 3 жыл бұрын
Christine, thanks for watching! The tumblers I currently use need a design measuring 8-1/8” by 9-1/4”. That’s slightly different from the two other locations I’ve purchased tumblers before. (And both of those measurements were different as well!) You aren’t the first to ask about design sizes, so down the road I may just put together a video in how to measure for the perfect size.

Great question! I couldn’t figure that out when I first started. Then I couldn’t figure out how to explain light pressure until recently. I put a tumbler in the cold press and loosen it up. Barbara, thank you for watching! Yes, I have found that to work. I used to only push down one seam, but quickly realized that second “hidden” seam is probably more important! I followed your revised instructions and my tumbler came out a little faded and the black look weak. Based on your experience, in general, what causes the image to look faded and weak (liter) looking blacks, more or less time or heat? Thanks for any help and for all your videos.

Jon, when I was using the convection oven, my blacks were not completely black until I reduced the time. If you’re following my time and temp, my first questions would be, do you have pressure on the tumbler (not a lot, just a little), are you having challenges with other colors, and what press are you using. If you’d like to brainstorm more and you have a Facebook account, jump over to my Facebook group and join. It’ll be easier to text back and forth, and there could be other folks that could weigh in.

I use your tape method for my tumblers and I love it . I still have some issues with seams but it is getting better and I thank you for that! , I did a cup and it came out perfect but when I attempted to do a second and third it comes out dull. So my question is do light colors like Gold need to be pressed in a shorter time? I follow your temp and time and turns and I have even changed my paper and can't get the gold to pop like it did in the first one I made. Any suggestions?
@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 3 жыл бұрын
Debbie, thanks for watching! You know, I’m not sure what could be causing it, especially if the colors came out right on the first one. While I’ve heard of people adjusting time or temp for different colors, I don’t. I’ve found that, at least for me, my time and temp hits all colors pretty well. The first things I would look for is what could have been different on subsequent presses. Was the pressure the same? Was the temp the same? Were the print settings the same? Did it take longer for the press to come to temp due to it being colder in the room (causing the cups to start at a lower temp)? Sometimes I’ll up the saturation a bit on pale colors, but I’m at a loss if your first one came out okay and the next ones didn’t. I’ll ask around, and if I come up with any suggestions, I’ll let you know.

@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Alexandria! It could be a couple of things. You should have light pressure. If your pressure is too heavy, that could be an issue. Also, I peel my tumblers hot, a couple minutes after they’ve come out of the press. I’ve heard leaving the paper on could cause issues. (And NEVER dip them in water!) Lastly, your tumbler may not be completely baked, i.e., the coating may not have been completely cured at the factory). If you put it in the press for 15 - 30 seconds then let it cool before pressing, that may fix the issue. Good luck! And thanks for watching!

@@industrialfringe953 This method seems to be working for me but I leave a bit of extra wrap on one side maybe 1/8" to avoid a white line. Then I squeegee down the seam and so far they're looking good. But my black has not come out anywhere as black as yours. Mine looked faded and I'm at same temp and time. Do you use some color setting that is better for blacks? I've used Black point compensation but not seeing good color. I guess I need to do a test piece with multiple settings at same everything else.
@industrialfringe953
@industrialfringe953 2 жыл бұрын
If you make coffee mugs, the perfect use for the occasional p]broken one is to test, using multiple strips with corresponding color names. I don’t use a special setting. Presses can differ in temp from one to another, so there’s a chance you’re not pressing hot enough. Or too hot, but my guess is not hot enough. It may be worth your while to sacrifice one tumbler and use multiple strips. And leave yourself room to repress. The earlier strips will be lighter because of the additional time in the press, but you will have already figured out they didn’t work! Thanks for watching!

Can you do a video on how to press a 30 oz tumbler without getting the line from the press gap? Please! I've waisted 100 dollars worth of 30 oz tumblers because my press is suppose to be able to do 30 oz but the gap you have to rotate. I could probably make one! But do you rotate your tumbler during the press? I’ve found that multiple rotations are key. I do four rotations. If I were having problems, I’d probably reduce the amount of time per rotation and add more rotations.ons so all of the tumbler gets equal heat. Make sense? Thanks for watching!
