i might sometimes use some overdrive and distortion pedals, but i’m the same way, i mostly use the overdrive channels on my H&K tri-amp. the tone is just amazing.

Ah yeah when you’ve got a H&K tri-amp it’s silly not to use the overdrive channel on those beasts! 😎

Best used in the effects loop of a cranked valve amp.

Absolutely, I do both in the effects loop along with in various positions in the signal chain through the features of G2 which allows users to moves loops to different places, great piece of kit!

Nice vid.. exactly where I have my VOL in the send/return... add another pedal and amp... you can have that 'sound on sound' effect

Thanks John! Do you run 2 amps?

@@mattmallguitar I am using a Kemper now Matt.. just for convenience with gigging.. I use to have a Boss GT100 where you can have two signals/amps.... I would have a my normal delay on one side and the other side have a long delay with feedback of 99%... almost infinite... put the another volume pedal at the front end of amp 2... having that volume closed, you can swell in that pedal to created a nice layered 'sound on sound'.... David Gilmour used to great effect on Shine on you crazy diamond .... you hear it on each chord he strums kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6bMh6Ouedp0ng

Ah amazing! How do you find the Kemper? I’ve only ever used one in the studio but not for live, lots of players using them now!

Great explanation Matt! Exactly what I needed to know; I plan to run mine in the effects loop, same as your fourth clip. One question: are you using a 250K high impedance or a 25K low impedance volume pedal? Some people tell me I want the 25K if the pedal goes after my OD pedal and 250K if it goes before. Others tell me the 25K is for keyboards and the 250K is for guitar.

Hi Pete! Thanks for the comment! So the volume pedal I’m using (Dunlop DVP3) has a 250K pot, but you’re right, some people recommend 25K pot if running in the effects loop, however, I’ve found mine works really well with my rig and my previous rig also, (so not exclusive to my Victory head), but could be worth trying the 25K pot volume pedal, I’ve personally not tried it yet to see if there’s much of a difference. But the DVP3 certainly works great for me at the moment 😊

I don't do swells. My use case for VP is tuning the amp for my "default" with the pedal at 70%, which gives me some range to turn my master volume slightly up or down without having to touch the amp controls. This is after overdrives and before time based fx for me. Plugging it into the fx loop would be optimal as the pedal wouldn't affect the amp gain, but it's too much of a hassle to set up.

Great video! Think this finally answered all my questions and taught me where I actually want mine (at the very end as a straight master control). My only question that remains is, if the guitar goes direct to the volume pedal, does the volume pedal actually hijack control of the guitar signal OR if I have the guitar volume rolled off is that the new max volume for the pedal?
@mattmallguitar
@mattmallguitar 2 жыл бұрын
Hey James thanks for the comment! If you’re plugging straight into your volume then you can use your guitars control to roll off the volume or you can use the volume pedal instead to do a similar thing. I hope this helps!

Ok, I need some help please. I used to have this wired but after rewiring board I forgot the sequence. Basically option 2, using pedal as a master volume for OCD gain pedal. Here's the layout I will do my best. Guitar goes straight into input jack on side of board. (Custom board) Here's where it gets confusing. I'm using a pedal switcher the Moen Gec9. So I need the volume pedal out to control master volume of ocd pedal. MOEN has an in and out that normally go to in and out of pedal but since I'm incorporating the volume pedal....ugh.

Hello. What is the signal chain in the intro? It seems to have the most stereo information in the sound vs the rest of the video.-Thanks in advance!

If i want to use the volume pedal trough the effects loop like in option 4, which pedal should i use? Low Impedance or High Impedance?
@mattmallguitar
@mattmallguitar 3 жыл бұрын
Ah interesting question! It depends what other pedals you’re running with it, so if you run a buffered signal into a High Impedance volume you may not get as good a curve on the volume swell - check out That Pedal Show, they go into more detail about High & Low impedance in one of their videos ....

Always Low Impedanz in Effektloop. In front of an amp use hi impedanz. Or a pedal with a buffer in front of a low impedanz Pedal. Boss Pedals have a build in Buffer. You can test it by disconnecting the power. When no signal comes from your guitar by deactivaring the pedal then the pedal is buffered. Otherwise true bypass.

What is Difference between volume pedal and expression pedal
@mattmallguitar
@mattmallguitar Жыл бұрын
Hey Christy, a volume pedal acts as a master volume control, only affecting the overall volume of your guitar signal. An expression pedal can control various different effects parameters depending on what device they are hooked up to. For example, they can alter the length of a delay/reverb, or add and remove gain, a lot of good volume pedals will have the option to be used as an expression pedal as well, for example, the Dunlop volume pedal I use here in this demo can be hooked up to another pedal using the expression output if the other pedal has this function. Maybe I’ll do a video at some point to demonstrate this 😊
