hi robojax, I am attempting to get reading from a 4 plug adaptor so as to measure the power consumption of anything I plug into it. I am in UK and the lead I want to test has 3 wires earth, neutral and live. so far I have cut the live brown wire and soldered on bullet connectors and heat shrinked tubes as you have on your positive wire so I can feed it through the current transformer coil. am I right in thinking I can now power the module if I attach positive to live and negative to neutral. I understand you explain what you've done well in the video but will this work how I'm doing it and is the capacitor a requirement for this use? I will appreciate if you can help me with doing this safely thankyou, Tom
@robojax4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I can't explain it by writing better than video. So watch the video that. The capacitor it seems you've skipped the video. I used the capacitor to proof that the module actually is showing the Power Factor pf. You don't need any capacitor. This video has the word on the image "tested" and many produces don't do the pf. so It passed the test.

Thanks , That is the way I thought it hooked up but it is good to be sure. I am using this to monitor a 12500 W Generator to tell how much I am using (In Watts). Mounting on the Service Panel of my house. It looks like since I have 2 legs each with 120V , I will need 2 of these, 1 for each leg. Totaling 240V. Than I would add the 2 Wattage readouts together to get the total draw/watts . It doesn't even look like both wires would even fit through the clamp.

Why do you (multiple times), point to package label as model 061 but both times say verbally "016" ???.....I wouldn't be so picky but the backside label you show identifies 2 discrete models....one being 061 and the other 016...so you need to be mindful of this error. Also the large print on your vid at timeline 0:41 also says "016" but I think it's backwards here too. At timeline 1:23 you also point to the package label ( 061) and "say" 016......same at timeline 2:03, reversed numbers again. Otherwise....a very excellent review and report.

Hi there, The Robojax... I am not really good at electricity but I understand some basics of it. I just ordered one and it has been delivered to my house today. I have the very same model Peacefair PZEM-022 100A. My plan is to use it after my Circuit breaker which is 60A 220V here in the Philippines - so as to see all the readings of the entire house. Do you think it is applicable and can this meter sustain it if I connect it after the circuit breaker as a source of electricity in my house and having this device measuring the current, etc? Please give me feedback HWcave for I am expecting answer and thank you very much in advance. :)
@robojax4 жыл бұрын
Yes it will work as this can measure up to 100A. the location either after the breaker or before will not affect the reading. Before breaker will show you the power is ON and that is it.

Something is not adding up. The panel appears to display only real (average) and not reactive power. With the heat gun on high we had a current of 11.67 A at 117 V which is 1365 VA in agreement with the measured value (within measurement error). IOW reactive power is zero. With the capacitor attached we had 11.81 A at 117 V which calculates to 1382 VA of apparent power. Again this is consistent with the measured average power displayed of 1376 watts meaning, again, zero reactive power. At low power we had current at 2.11 A at 121 V or 255.35 VA of which the measured real power was 94.6 watts. This leaves a reactive power of 237.14 VAR. (what this is telling us is that at hi power the load is entirely resistive, whereas a low power the load is predominantly reactive due to the motor). Now when a capacitor is added at the low setting is where it gets interesting. The capacitor should not change the real power. We should only see a change in reactive power. And yet on low with a capacitor we measure a current 2.32 A at 121 V. But real power somehow decreases to 53.3 watts and calculated reactive power is now 275.6 VARs. How is it that the real power has decreased with the addition of the cap? Makes no sense. The capacitor should only affect the reactive power. Moreover power factor correction will decrease overall current. Not increase it (from 2.11 to 2.32) . This is not consistent with power factor correction unless you have overcorrected and gone from a predominant inductive load to a predominant capacitive load! This is what appears to have happened. It still does not, however, explain the the reduction in real power (watts) with the addition of the capacitor.
