@@HomemadeEmilyJane don’t get me wrong lol I would love to have this but I have to recoup $4000 that I had to pay as an emergency for one of my cats so that’s where my income tax refund is going sadly. I did watch another video from one of the dealers and she had a really good tip about doing those half square triangles, she placed the fabric right sides together when she was putting it on the plate (the die?) so that when she took off that plastic cover whatever that’s called, all of her half square triangles were in the correct order she just had to pick them up as is and she could take them directly to the sewing machine. I found out that one of my good friends sister has the entire set and she lives about 10 minutes from me so hopefully after this Covid crap goes away I can try it out at her house. My friend said that her sister can cut out an entire king size quilt in one day of course I don’t know the pattern but still…😀

Great tutorial Emily, I have an Accuquilt Go Starter Kit, the 8" cube. I am sticking with you for cutting fabrics you make it easy. You explain it to the point. now I would like to know how do you store you're cutting fabrics with the Accuquilt? Do you store them in a see-through Bin, by die numbers. That is how I store my fabrics after has been cut with the die by numbers. Love the fabrics behind you are those fat quarters the way they're laid out. Nice Thank you Emily. Oh, question curious mind wants to know do you cut only 100% cotton, or you cut other fabrics like polyester, or like silky fabrics? Let me know. I really would like to make my first quilt this year
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane Жыл бұрын
Hi Ada! Thanks for your kind words of encouragement! I personally only cut the pieces that I need for a specific project, so I do not have a need to store fabric pieces previously cut into AccuQuilt shapes. Your plastic bin storage sounds like a great solution if you prefer to cut before having a project in mind! I typically do use 100% cotton quilting fabric, but I have also used my AccuQuilt to cut batting or other fabrics in polyester or rayon materials. If you're looking for more tips for making your very first quilt, I think you will love this section on my website: homemadeemilyjane.com/quilt/

Do you place the selvages on any certain direction? I used an Accuquilt recently & my 4 1/2” squares were short on one side & I was told it could be because of the direction I loaded the fabric! 🤷🏻‍♀️
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! That’s a great question - the “right” way to do it is for the selvage to be perpendicular to the rollers. I personally only do it correctly about half the time though anyway 🤦🏼‍♀️

I am new to quilting and quite interested in a die cutter but I can't seem to find anywhere where anyone mentions whether the dies have a seam allowance. For instance, if I want to make a 6" finished square I need a 6 1/2" raw square so there's a 1/4" seam allowance. Does the die account for that?
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Patty! Great question! Yes, the dies for patchwork and piecing do include the seam allowance. The dies for appliqué don’t because there wouldn’t be any seam allowance. You can learn more and find some of my favorite dies on this article: homemadeemilyjane.com/accuquilt-dies/

Do you not need to put your length wise grain on the label side of the die ? I thought about running strips in like you do but then the accuquilt videos say lengthwise grain on label side? Just wondering if you had any problems sewing it up doing it your way? Thanks great video x

the pieces are many and small, so it will take much time to sew them together?
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! It depends on what dies you’re using and what quilt block/designs you’re making. The fastest ones to sew up are typically the ones with bigger sizes and straight lines. For quick sewing, I love using the 12” Mix and Match Qube to make a variety of different blocks! If you do something smaller or with curves or Y-seams, then those do tend to take more time to sew. (I do find the most time savings on cutting though when I’m doing more complicated shapes that would be tricky and time-consuming with the rotary cutter!)

You mentioned that you have the 12” go cube box. Do the 12” dies fit into the Go machine? I thought it only took dies up to 10”.

I’m asking for my girlfriend, who has this GO cutter. She has dies with multiple sized shapes, how would you cut just one of those sizes, ie; the 3” circle that’s on the die with a 5” and 2” circles? Or do you have to buy the specific sizes?

On a multi-shape die, just place the fabric and cutting mat over the shape that you want cut.

@@HomemadeEmilyJane I have a question regarding the Accuquilt Go Me system; I have been cutting by hand for a while and I understand how to Cyprus using the pattern blocks that are in the 8” cube, that being said, when I wenypt to the pattern book to make the xoheart pattern, I noticed the layout has no coordinating numbers?? All patterns I have made from any purchased pattern has your layout diagram usually alphabetical or by number. I am just looking for an answer....thank you for any advice🤗❤️. Love watching you!

I just purchased a Go Baby but when I try to put the die into the machine it does not go in as easily as your die. Why is it because it is new?
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 2 жыл бұрын
Oh that’s interesting! First, make sure your using the proper die for the machine you have. How many layers of fabric are you cutting? Try cutting just 1 layer of fabric and see if that makes it any easier? I hope you’re able to get it to work!
@lindadalton2668
@lindadalton2668 10 ай бұрын
If you are going to do all this pre cutting why not just cut your pattern. I’m confused as to why this is so great
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 10 ай бұрын
It saves so much time! It makes it so that I don’t have to do any trimming for HSTs or Flying Geese after piecing them (which is my least favorite part, honestly).. but if all you’re cutting is squares or rectangles, then it’s quicker to just cut them with a ruler and rotary cutter.

I am not sure how to lay the fabric. Straight of grain or how and how do you know if its straight of grain or whatever.
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 2 жыл бұрын
Great question!! The biggest thing is to make sure the fabric grain lines up with the straight edge on the die. The experts will say to have the selvage edge of the fabric parallel to the side of the die that has the sticker on it for the most accurate cuts.

Showed my husband the videos and he ready to say go! Only 1 video said when the dies get dull you have to buy a new one. How often does that happen? About how many cuts per die can you get?
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 4 жыл бұрын
That’s so great to hear!!!! I’m not sure there’s a specific number of cuts you can expect, but the dies last a very long time! I’ve had my machine for just almost 2 years and I use it a LOT! I use my half square triangle dies the most and haven’t noticed them getting dull yet. If you think you’ll be using one shape quite a bit or using the machine on an industrial cutting level, you might consider getting the Studio 2 machine (the machine is more expensive, but the dies are super sturdy and actually they have better sales on the studio dies)

Two suggestions for any future acuquilt videos you make: I thought I heard that you need to run the fabric through with the green in a particular direction. If that is the case it would be nice to address it. The other request I would have is that if you are going to have music on well, you do something where you don't have to talkcould you please have it play?Add a much lower decibel level. The music was so much louder than your voice was that it was very irritating to have to listen to it. I would prefer silence. I did find the video generally helpful.Because i've never seen an acuquilt used before

I was skeptical at first too, but after using AccuQuilt for a few years, it’s actually so much faster and way more precise than rotary cutting. I primarily find the triangles or other odd shapes the most time-saving because I don’t have to trim after sewing
