Been trying to wrap my head around Awakening Of The Rebellion while being rusty at EAW, and realized that my naval doctrine as the rebels was very much imperial in its style. I realized quickly that the Home One has excellent maximum range, so I just let it bombard enemy stations and have two other MC80s (the broadside versions) flanking it on either side, turning the flexible and resilient cruisers into siege platforms like the ISD. Had some Nebulon-Bs, CR-90s and what not when I needed some extra flak against starfighters. And I will admit to growing a fondness of Dreadnought strike groups. Resilient, powerful and fairly small. Just throw them in there and try to flank whenever you need that extra firepower boost. I might not be very good at handling rebel ships, then again. They do have assault frigates... TL DR: Capital ships are siege platforms for heavy bombardment, frigates are for escort duty and for overwhelming individual capital ships. Corvettes and fighters are merely there to keep enemy bombers away.

I enjoy this! I love EAW. I don't always have my fleet as well organized, but the line works. My gonto tactic is still more in line with Thrawn. Drawing enemies towards a certain area while bringing in forces for the pinch or a flanking position on their Space Station or super cruiser or something like the Lucrehulk (although the firing radius on those sucks and pinch doesn't work with something that has a firing circle that's an actual circle....and dropping forces behind it) while maintaining a force line to draw supprt and protection forces away from their cruisers/space station.

In AOTR I tend to spam lots of fighters early game with a few capital ships to provide a juicy target. I use the pause function to give individual fighter squadrons specific targets. I will also group up to 6 squadrons of bombers to take out hardpoints in a single pass. I'll often have several groups of 5-6 bomber squadrons with shield generators as priority targets, followed by hanger bays, missile tubes and finally turbolasers/ion cannons. When attacking a space station I'll use the corvette to first find and define the hyperspace lanes then when enemy fighters pursue my pathfinder I'll bring in a few more Corvettes and Frigates as well as individual starfighter squadrons. Once the enemy fighters start to retreat back to the station I'll follow up with capital ships, wait for their fighters to launch then group them together as needed. While my bombers attack shield generators and missile tubes my fighters will take out enemy fighters. Once the sky is clear of enemy fighters (assuming one is playing as the Rebellion) I'll use X-wings to suppliment my bomber strikes.

An Alliance/New Republic player that doesn't use their excellent starfighters is an Alliance/New Republic player that is losing. I use much the same strategy, but I lead with interceptors to eat/deflect the enemy missile spam (T-wings eat the missiles for low cost, and the A-wings deflect them with jammers). This saves my more expensive bombers and superiority fighters from evaporating in mid charge. Strongly recommend capturing Sollust early so you can build Quasarfire carriers.

I like putting gunships into wolf packs. I use them to then perform hit and run attacks, drawing enemies out of position to get attacked by another wolf pack (usually have two or three wolf packs of these in a major battle). I use this tactic to whittle down forces before I bring in cruisers. Sometimes use fighters in place of the gunship wolf pack, but also use fighters in partnership with a gunship wolf pack (partly depending on fighter types). I sometimes win the battle just with the gunships swarming single star destroyers.
@michaelramon24114 жыл бұрын
Another major tactic is fire focusing. If you have three cruisers and they have three cruisers but your three cruisers are all firing at the same one of their cruisers while their three cruisers are each firing at one of your cruisers, you'll have a big advantage, because you can down a ship's shields, begin taking out hardpoints and eventually score a kill first, and then you have three cruisers and they have two. In EAW it is sometimes good to order your ships to stop attacking a crippled ship to focus on bigger threats (especially if the crippled ship is taking up fleet cap and preventing the enemy from bringing in a fresh ship), but every turbolaser hardpoint you take out will reduce your fleet's damage, and the earlier you do that, the more damage you prevent. Getting complete kills also means that the enemy will have lost that ship even if you decide to retreat, and hit-and-run tactics can whittle scary enemy fleets down to nothing.

It helps a lot to know that frigates are equipped to deal with both fighters and cruisers. In many battles, I'd erroneously keep splitting my fleets under the false assumption that they were purely there to screen for fighters and kept getting them killed when the cruisers showed up. Thanks for this video, because I don't think I would have heard this very simple concept explained as well anywhere else.
@Wedgekree4 жыл бұрын
Good video! And getting into the idea of using the Dornean Gunships in picket formations. They're rather cheap (about two squadrons of starfighters) and are decent screeners. THey're not as expensive as CR-90's but are less survivable. But their missiles let them do a bit more damage to fighters when they're in packs. And they're small enough to be as was said harder to target. 3-4 of them are rather nice at dealing with fighters on escort duty and they can harrass/lure enemy frigates.
@ashandtodd4 жыл бұрын
My strategy for early empire is just star fighter waves, the strongest ship I usually have is Vader’s ISD which can get destroyed if I’m not careful so I put 1-2 venators in my fleet and make use of the shield penetration mechanic in AOTR which is usually very effective if you target hangars and missiles (missiles so you can move up some larger ships without taking heavy damage) and then shield generators to help the larger ships. (This was made late at night so if it seems weird that’s why)
@matthew____8794 жыл бұрын
One thing i think the sources missed, especially in base game and AOTR and other mods with shield penetrating missiles is destroyers. These are small ships like the Mc-30, Mc-40, marauder class, broadside class and vengeance class , that while smaller than most cruisers, were able to do severe damage to capital ships, often at the expense of anti-fighter capability. These ships can be pretty useful, especially when you are outnumbered in terms of cruisers.

One thing I realized I don't do is take advantage of pausing to make complex fleet maneuvers. One thing you can do is have a small group of frigates or fast cruisers swing through the line by making use of the waypoint system, just make a few circles until the waypoints run out! This is especially great for ships that have lots of missile launchers as they can unload and leave instead of taking damage during their cooldowns. Another added tactical effect is that by the time they draw fire they are leaving the battle line and may even draw enemy cruisers out of formation

Interesting video. Your preferred fleet makeup is much different then mine but it was fun. The capital ship makeup of my typical Forces of Corruption Alliance attack fleet is 4 to 6 small ships (Either half Marauders and half CR-90s and DP20s or all CR-90s and DP20s) 6 to 12 frigates (Usually alf Nebulon-Bs and halhf MC30Cs) 3 or 4 Heavy Frigates (Assault Frigate IIs) and 1 or 2 cruisers (MC80s naturally)

You said something about the Home One being a 1 000 meters exactly, pretty sure it isn't five times a regular MC80 then, no wonder I got shocked at its size in Thrawn's Revenge. I expected it to be maybe 1,5 times the size of a regular MC80.

hmmmm i noticed that atleast in the fall of the republic mod that trying to use the line tactic seems to work abit less but that could be based on the lack of larger cruisers early game lost a fleet battle yesterday to a cis fleet because they walked up on me with 4 dreadnaught class providences and the supporting fleet was nothing compared to mine but i just didnt have the larger cruisers to continually slug it out :(

I took space over coursant with ONE battle FOURTEEN waves. I had to take down like 6 home 1 MC80s plus over 50 small ships. 23 medium. Over 100 fighter squads. 3 golem 3 platforms. And capital ship yard. All I had was 4 heros all with ISD2 or less. And about 15 small ships. I used waves and strategy in 1 big battle. Took 2 hours or 3. #ampro

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but why are Starfighters faster in space when there is no weight or drag in space, you would of through the massive engines of those ships would make them go rather quick compared to a little fighter.
@solaviryuvia89534 жыл бұрын
There is drag still actually we call it Universal Drag. It's due to photons that are everywhere. Radiation alone can make friction due to these photons it releases. And then a large mass ship like a Black Sun Vigo (1-3mill Mass depending) will need better engines than a small mass (150k) Adv X-wing. Less mass less friction. Even in space mass is a constant as well like this Universal Drag
@grandstrategos11443 жыл бұрын
@Hakaru Uchiha Negligible drag, but not negligible physics. F = ma. A star fighter needs less force to reach a certain acceleration than a massive capital ship. Thus, ships move slower.

Cool! But what annoys me about this game is that if you give the ship an attack-order, it will keep flying towards the target even after having moved into range, so that your star destroyers will fly right in among the enemy corvettes if you tell them to target them.

Hello I was just thinking about something . Is it possible to add escape pod in the game ? That could be use for saving money if you lose ships for example if you loose a MC90 you could receive a certain purcentage of the ship value ?

So I’m in a pickle. You see, I’ve engaged an imperial fleet at the maw (AOTR) they have 7 ISD 2’s, 3 rector class, and 5 ISD class, as well as a golan and a shipyard. how I have 2 MC 80b class, 2 defender class, 2 dreadnoughts and a couple various corvettes and nebulon frigates etc. now, the enemy has a huge advantage in firepower and as the rest of my fleet got nearly obliterated in simultaneous attacks from SSD’s and the black sun remnants, this is one of my last operational fleets. if I don’t take out this fleet, they’ll break through my lines and take my planets orbits before I can muster any new ships. their strategy seems to be centred around defending the golan, and if they lose x amount of ships they’ll jump in more ISD’s in the middle of the fight right next to my ships. Is there a good way of countering these new ships when my fighters and main cruisers are still busy or heavily damaged? (I’m waiting outside firing range atm)
@michaelramon24114 жыл бұрын
Honestly, strategic hit-and-run might be the way to go. Pick off an enemy cruiser without risking your ships too much, get a complete kill and then retreat, turn around and attack them again until you've weakened them enough to try the direct approach.

Two questions, in your video about how to destroy larger fleets, you only started with one ship on the battlefield, but when I start a space battle, all my ship space is full: how do I change that?Also, how do you launch submods for the big mods? Thank you and congratulations for your great work.
@braydenplowman2214 жыл бұрын
You need to put a scout ship in the little colored box that you see when you inspect your fleet at a planet (using the “zoom in” microscope). Then, when you enter into the battlefield, you will be able to jump the rest of your fleet into the battle from the hyperspace jump button. Like you see him do at 5:27

Star Wars RPG has gone down hill after West End Games closed down
@McShmoodle4 жыл бұрын
I would disagree with that, I think FFG has been doing an excellent job, but I suppose it depends on what you're looking to get out of it. Are you referring to the gameplay experience, or peripheral aspects like production values or distribution, etc? Each version of the game has its own strengths and weaknesses. Just hazarding a guess, if you're referring to why the RPGs don't make major contributions to the lore like WEG did, it's sort of a slanted metric considering that before WEG there basically was no lore, so they had to build it from scratch. Once that lore was established, though, and once the EU took off, the RPGs really only need to build off of what's already been established to make a suitable gameplay experience.
