If you notice the purple doesn’t look anything like the original paint swatch, it looks more blue. If you want to get closer to the paint swatch color you may have to add a little red paint to that purple to bring out the red tones when set. I’d love to see Resin Ace try that experiment to see if the color gets any closer to the paint swatch.

This was very helpful! I have a question, though, can clear resin be turned matte with paint too?
@resinAce8 ай бұрын
If you're referring to the surface finish of resin then that is determined by your mould only. So if you want to create a resin piece with a matte finish then you need a matte mould. If your mould is glossy then your resin cast will always be glossy, regardless of the pigments you add to it.
@cherry-kun97838 ай бұрын
That is so interesting! Excuse if I kep with the questions or being redundant, I just want to have everything clear. So, if I use a matte silicon mould and pour the resin in it, it would come out matte too? is that right? is there matte finish silicon to work with? Thank you for answering to my question! @@resinAce
@resinAce8 ай бұрын
@@cherry-kun9783 Silicone will create an exact replica of your model. So if you model something glossy (like a glass cube) your mould will then produce glossy resin cubes. What you would need to do to create a matte cube is to paint the cube in matte paint before you mould it, then it would produce matte resin cubes. I actually use matte acrylic spray to paint my models if I want my moulds of them to have a matte finish.

I have 2 questions, 1.if I use a much less amount of paint will it turn our transparent/translucent? 2. Does watercolor work too? The solid cakey one or the paste like one either
@resinAce4 жыл бұрын
Hi, acrylic paint generally does not make a great translucent pigment, even a small amount will make your resin opaque. Water-based pigments can only be used in very tiny quantities in epoxy resin, as water is generally a contaminant of resin. For that reason, water-based epoxy pigments are usually very highly concentrated, so you only need one drop to achieve a good depth of colour. I feel you would need to add too much water-based paint to be effective. All you can do is try it and see what happens.

Hi, when I made this video it did not occur to me that not all acrylic paints may be suitable for the process. The one I use is quite low viscosity and very creamy in texture and blends with resin really well. Some thicker brands of acrylic paint, particularly those designed for textured paint effects, may not blend as nicely.

@resinAce4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I coat my 3D prints with UV resin, which can then be cured instantly under a UV lamp. I warm it up in hot water to make it more fluid, then paint it on with a small paint brush. You need to keep the piece moving because the resin will naturally flow downwards otherwise. Once the piece has a nice even coat I give it a very quick once over with a lighter flame to pop any surface bubbles, then hit it with the UV lamp to set the resin instantly. With ordinary epoxy resin you will always have problems getting the resin to remain on vertical surfaces, because it just wants to run down. The surface tension of the resin will also make it want to pull into little beads, but this effect will be lessened on a surface that it can get a better grip on. So coating with acrylic spray may give you a better result (particularly if it's matt finish) but it could still get thin on the vertical surfaces if it runs. Another way to keep the coating even is to keep the piece turning on a gadget like a tumbler turner until it's cured, like the one in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaDRc5VrpMZ2iKc

@@roadstar499 I just use UV lamps designed for curing UV nail polish, and they set the resin almost instantly but it can take a while longer before the surface stops being tacky. I've had decent luck with Wilton Candy Colors color pots. Not to be confused with the Icing Colors or Gels. The candy colors come in 2 sets of 4 only. Mixing these colors together doesn't always work right. For the icing colors, your resin may handle it better than others. I haven't had good luck with it and I try to stay away from anything that lengthens cure time.

Again a great video. Thanks a lot. You are such an inspiration to me. Love it. Probleme: Is it 4% of pigment of the total amount of resin? Or 4% of pigment added? If the total amount of is 100% resin plus 4% of pigment, you will not end up woth 4% of pigment. (Your example: 10g of resin and 0,4g of pigment. The pigment makes up only 3,84% pigment in the final mix.) If you want to end up with 4% of pigment in your final mix, you will need to make it 9,6g of resin and 0,4g of pigment. This will give you the max ratio of 4% pigment.
@resinAce4 жыл бұрын

Hi, the datasheet for the polyester resin I used states 'only use pigments formulated for polyester resins' so I have never tried acrylic paint in it. Please be aware that polyester resin is not just a cheaper alternative to epoxy, it is a different resin with different properties. I rarely use polyester, mainly because you absolutely cannot breathe the vapour, but other negative side-effects are that it cures with a rippled, tacky surface and shrinks quite a bit.
