Hi Mike, hope you'll see my comment. I saw this video a couple years ago, and I listened to it to make a recap of AD-2. I realized that I forgot some detail you talk in your video because I followed your suggestion about creating a template with all my favorite settings, therefore loosing little creation, lol! At around 22:30, you're talking about the FX track created, and you mention that we need the Master track to hear the FX track. Honestly, until now, I never used the Addictive's FXs, only using inserted or sent FX plugins. However, today, after new tests, I discovered that the FX track generated by Addictive is working fine without the Master track, even if the gain level is not really high. Just wanted to let you know. As always, thanks for all help you give to us.

Well, again I learned a bunch in each section! Thanks so much! I would love to see how you use AD2 in a track, especially focusing on the transform part of beats and in terms of sculpting/customizing fills in an arrangement. I spend a lot of time on those two areas and would love to see some expert tweaking and learn from your perspective. I see those two elements as being two of the more amazing tools of AD2! Thanks as always!

Discovered an interesting technique. When you get a single track for each drum (AD2) you also get the "Drum Master" and the "Drum Buss" (along with everything else).. When I mixed them I spent more time working on all the individual drum tracks but waited on the Buss and Drum Master tracks... then panned the Drum Master complete Left and the Buss complete Right.. what I heard was nice spread of sound. Panning each drum track to the position where they physically sit in the mix, surrounded by the master/buss tracks.. try it.. really nice sound.. many possibilities can even send to reverb on the master and buss and set them more wet than dry.. very nice touch.

Mike, thanks so much for this. I used the template you set up for SI Drums and it's excellent. I started using the free Steven Slate Drums, which has some of the same capabilities as AD and sounds pretty good for my needs. I'm putting together a template for it a la your SI Drums template. I'll be happy to send it and the drum map to you when it's done. I also found the Spitfire LABS Percussion and Drums plugins, and made drum maps for them; happy to send them to you so you can post them on your site.

Always love your presentations Mike. My method over the years has been much different. Not sure whether better or worse. Because all midi drums are one note per drum (or percussion) I use CAL to divide the midi track into separate note midi tracks (split note to tracks.cal), then assign an instrument to these tracks. This also allows for a different instrument if you prefer a different sound. eg Addictive snare and Toms and BFD cymbals for example. Also individual tracks can be transposed to change the note instrument easily, or dragged in 'midi view' to a different note sound. All relatively simple to do. Thank you for showing your method. I always learn something from you and greatly appreciate your KZbin videos.

MIDI is Data. I have a Roland MIDI Module I purchased basically to get a good Thunder and Rain voice for the song I was obsessed with writing. I also have a selector switch with several inputs and outputs for MIDI so I can chose different MIDI Modules and/or keyboards. I took a college course long ago called Computers and Music that went deeply into MIDI. Today however so many advances have been made since I took that class. I need to learn (remember) how to do so many things. Assigning voices, creating clips out of audio, etc. I do appreciate your style of teaching. Especially when you explain the flow of a signal. Having this understanding is very important. I found Attack Time, Sustain, Decline, etc. quite interesting. The pre and post I still find confusion for some reason, I'm glad you are addressing this in this video. Thanks for all the information.

Instead of routing all of the drum tracks to a drum bus, you may find it more useful to make use of a patch point. That way you can mix different kits that come in at different times, change the balance between the submixes, and then finally route those signals to a Drum Bus

If you plan on using a separate MIDI track (a throwback to early versions of SONAR), I think checking the MIDI source box during track creation will do that for you and map it to the synth. Also, the Synth Track Folder check box may be useful to allow for collapsing the Drum tracks for less clutter when working on other tracks. It doesn't affect the console pane, just the track pane.

In the Drum Map Manager, when you change the Out Port, you don't need to highlight all the drum rows. You can just select the Out Port of just one row while holding down Ctrl-Shift, make your selection from the drop down list, and all rows should change to that selection.

Talk about coincidences, jeez. I'm an ableton user and was having trouble using the free version of the SSD5 drum plugin because for some reason it just doesn't show up in the plugins folder for ableton (tried everything). Long story short, I downloaded cakewalk and Addictive drums 2 today to try see how they sound, and i must say even the free version of AD2 with its limited features sounds amazing. The cakewalk drumkit that comes with the DAW is pretty good too, but I would say MtPower Drum Kit and Addictive Drums 2 is the way to go for bedroom producers lol.

When I open AD2, I have it play the beat "classic startup". While that plays, I then setup all the individual outputs as pre-fader and add tracks. This usually results in tracks for Master (which isn't really used but I put my MIDI there), kick, snare, hi-hat, toms 1-4, flexi if necessary, then Overheads and Room. I add 3 buses for drums: Kit (for all kit pieces), Mics (for room/OH) and Drums (the ultimate output for all drums). Getting Cakewalk to add a track automatically for every output is a bit much, I find.. But once you've done all this you can save a track template, which is a super powerful feature. I've never known what is meant by "Bus" within AD2.. I don't use it
@philsspace69
@philsspace69 3 жыл бұрын
I think the BUS within AD2 is for parallel compression and such.
@Herr-Lefe
@Herr-Lefe 2 жыл бұрын
@@philsspace69 So it seems. Start a beat and then check out and compare the master track and the bus track,. You'll probably hear (and see) a difference; which makes sense if you for example would like to apply some reverb consistently on all the toms, and no other kit piece.

Hi Mike what a timely video. I just purchased a Soundcraft MTK22 so I can control AD2's individual kit pieces while I Triger AD2 with my E-drum kit. I have got the latency down to about 20 milliseconds, which is just a tad to slow, so I may have to go back to using a midi controller to control Cakewalks midi learn function for individual track volume control. Any suggestions, anybody? The Soundcraft MTK has 22 USB multi-track recording 22 track USB returns. The only other option was the Behringer X-air18 but its mixer functions are all digital ( at that price point ).

It appears that you could have set up the separate midi track initially instead of cutting and pasting the number one midi track. Is that true? Also, do you actually need the buss channels in the tracks in cakewalk? It seems redundant. Loved the video and have listened to it at least 5 times. Hope you are doing well and refreshed after your rest and recreation in Bali!!

I have an electric drumkit but no matter what I do I can't get latency to be low enough on my windows computer. It's so frustrating! I have used aiso4all but having it be limited to use the sound driver on one program at a time just doesn't work for me. I want to use Addictive Drummer to jam along to music too, but there's no way to have aiso4all on Cakewalk and then play anything via Spotify for example. I know this is a bit if a specific problem but do you, or does anyone have any solutions? Other than importing tracks to Cakewalk... I just put Spotify on random and play along to things but the stock sounds on my kit are not inspiring like they are on AD2. I've tried to install things that claim to let aiso4all be shared by other programs but it's not worked so far. And also at the end of the day even the latency with aiso4all is not that great compared to just plugging in to a Mac. I don't know why it's so hard for Windows to just fix this issue. My computer is probably three times as powerful as my housemates Mac but the Mac just works with the drums!

I dislike the Drum Map because when you try to sample the note/drum too fast it brings up the properties. I found out that editing the master.ini in the Cakewalk core folder is much better. Simply scroll down a little ways until you see note names, then you can just add custom note names with a tittle. Example: [SI-Drum Kit] 36= Kick 2 37= Snare 1 The name you give it will be visible in "Use these notes instead" list when you right click on the piano roll in piano roll view, 'the midi editor'. Then your custom note names will be used in the actual piano roll to the left of the editor, not in the Drum Map view.

One of the best things about the drum map is that you can rearrange drum notes so they make sense for you. I like to have my drums set up in a certain order (top to bottom) and the Drum map lets me mak all the drum plugins consistent. Also, like to have the various articulations for each drum (tip, shank, choke or center, side, rimshot, click) in a consistent order for all drums. It makes it much easier for me to follow what's going on, and I ca move unwanted articulations out of the way. I suppose you could remap all the notes to have the same effect, but all you have to do with a Drum Map is dragging a note up or down then dropping it where you want it.

Doesn’t cakewalk have its own drum suite though?

jeez, I wish you would have shown how to get the drum pattern to repeat more than one measure. You just straight to edit the pattern after you show me how to get the beat on the time line... Any tips?

The AD2 Bus fader perplexes me. I cannot find any purpose for it. Not the Cakewalk Drum bus you generated, but the Bus output on AD2 itself.

I have Addictive and like them, but I prefer Superior Drums. Just my opinion.

But, that was a great instructional video in any case.

This is why I left Cakewalk for Studio One. It always felt like you needed a MENSA degree to configure routing and setup. Overly complicated.

This is so frustrating that in cubase its not possible to do it ... there is no option to route it to an audio track just to have it as an output so you cant actually see the waveforms etc... should have got cakewalk instead lol
