Do ppl usually use an iron removal before doing AIO?
@mikephillipsrealworlddetailing27 күн бұрын
Some people do and some don't. I stopped using Iron Removers a few years ago after a major brand name stained the anodized aluminum trim that surrounds the windows of a VW Jetta. In most cases, you cannot polish anodized aluminum, but somehow, I was able to remove the cloudy spots/stains. If you do use an Iron Remover, just keep it off anodized aluminum trim. Me? I figure for the most part, when I use an AIO or any compound or polish, by abrading the top surface of the paint at the same time I'll be removing any iron contamination. And without the risk or time required to undo any potential damage caused by an Iron Remover. Hope that helps and thank you for watching and commenting. -Mike Phillips

Mike…what product did you spray on the surface just prior to buffing off? Is Z1 easy to buff off?
@mikephillipsrealworlddetailing3 ай бұрын
Good catch! That was a highly liquified version of the Nanogel that Jim had sent me to test out as a pad primer. While it does work to prime a pad, and also as a residue remover, at this time we've chosen not to introduce the product. As to your other question, yes Z1 wipes off easily. Sometimes on darker colored cars you'll see a light fog or haze, this is the nanostructures crosslinking for a mechanical bond. These will disappear with time, or you can wipe the surface with pretty much anything to remove any excess including a spray detailer or even a water-dampened microfiber towel. And just to note, this was old single stage paint and a tick more difficult to work on than any newer single stage or basecoat/clearcoat paint. We used this car in an upcoming class where the class finished the rest of the car using Z1 and the results are nothing short of phenomenal. Now days I see guys wash & clay a vehicle then spray what they call a protectant and that’s it. I’m wondering if that is the “new “ one step complete” detail. I don’t see a little of this I see quite a lot. What’s up with that? Thanks for the video 🎉

What you're seeing is "like" what we call and *Express Detail* in the industry. While it's better than just washing and drying a car and calling it done, it's far from a proper detail job. There's room for this package as it appeals to budget minded folks. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Mike Phillips

@@mikephillipsrealworlddetailing Some of these spray waxes produce quite a shine and leave the surface of the paint feeling very smooth. I can certainly see the value. Thanks Mike, express detail makes perfect sense. Don’t know why I didn’t see that rite away. Cheers

What brand of wool pad is that on the rotory?
@mikephillipsrealworlddetailing3 ай бұрын
Most of the wool pads I have in the garage are Lake Country 7.5" 4-ply, twisted wool cutting pads. I'm a huge fan of LONG FIBER wool cutting pads for when you need to get in and cut fast and effectively. The best wool cutting pads have a fiber length of a MINIMUM of 1" and 1 1/4" and even 1 1/2" is better. Thanks for watching and commenting. -Mike Phillips

@@mikephillipsrealworlddetailing k thanks for getting back I don't do much heavy cutting any more I'm now finishing stuff out to 5,000 on orbital sander
@mikephillipsrealworlddetailing3 ай бұрын
@@rongamble9884 - That's a great way to finish. In my classes, I teach people to sand out to the highest grit their budget will allow. 3M Trizact sanding discs are cheap, and some people will opt to buff harder by finishing out at a lower grit versus spending more money and more time on the sanding side of the project to make the buff out faster, easier and cooler to the paint. At the end of the day, everyone finds a way to get to shiny! -Mike Phillips
