Hi, I tried the link but the page isn't available. I'm a relative beginner and would love to fully understand layers. Please can you give me a link to the layers course 🙏

I finally understood that the “This layer” hides and “Underlying layer” shows. I always struggled trying to get the results I wanted. Thank you for another great video!
@johngiatropoulos38482 жыл бұрын
Same here - I'm totally with you - this is why I, too, struggled with Blend If. What a simple way to describe the use of THIS LAYER vs UNDERLYING LAYER - the wonder is why no one has ever explained it that way. Even Colin doesn't go out of his way to emphasize that simple fact, rather mentions it rather casually. Hahahah I suppose because it's such a revelation to me I think he should have really made it a big deal in the tutorial. I do like his tutorials.

I've used blendif many times and it generally only gives good results if there is good contrast between the images you wish to remove and those you wish to retain. Sometimes using blendif and then applying layer masks to remove awkward areas can be a decent work around.

Blend if is one of the tools that I just can’t wrap my head around for some reason. And it’s a shame as it is such a powerful tool. Thanks for trying to educate me!
@eoslove20222 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Colin! We use BlendiFF a lot more now because selections in PS are still not easy to make and they leave halos you have to fix. We will prep a file before using BlendiFF so the sliders are more efficient And the absence of halos makes BlendiFF faster for us when we can use it.
@leniehulse16212 жыл бұрын
How do you prep a file?
@eoslove20222 жыл бұрын
@@leniehulse1621 Top file: fill all extraneous image parts with white that are not needed for the cut out.

@chuckdefiore2252 жыл бұрын
Sorry if I don't think this is extracting. If I extract, I have a separate object that can be used in multiple ways. This is a great tip and effect, but of limited use. In the right situation can be wonderful, just not an extraction.
@BGdev3057 ай бұрын
This is using 2 exact images that would work for this though. Secondly, if you were to move either one of those images this would look terrible!
