Two questions, do you need an extra oiler for the chain? and how many cuts do you get before you have to resharpen the chain?

I’ve seen some guys have a setup where they will have an extra oiler, I know what you mean. It certainly wouldn’t hurt but as long as the chainsaw itself is properly dispensing the chain oil you’re good. So far I’ve cut three logs on one sharpening and it’s still cutting fine, probably due for a sharpening now though.

@@_Shopfix Thanks. I’ve been holding off on a solution due to chain heat concerns and the need to constantly sharpen the chain since your ripping and not cross cutting.

@@vmoutsop I see, depending on the type of chainsaw one uses I can see those being valid concerns. I didn’t spend that much on my chainsaw, it’s certainly nowhere near the best so if it can do the job a better chainsaw will cut even smoother I imagine.

Good idea But it's taking too much time

Milling this whole log from start to finish only took me an hour and a half, the money you save by milling the lumber yourself is far more than an hour and a half’s worth of wage for most of us. If money isn’t an issue than milling your lumber becomes a thing of sentimental value and pride rather than a money saver.
