It's surprising how little is available online regarding how to use an armillary sphere. I've parsed together a few techniques, which I demonstrate here. If I've made significant errors, my apologies. No computers or telescopes. Just painstaking observations over years from the Astrologer-Astromers of the past. And it works! Fantastic.

Thank you so much for the video, and your instructions on how to use the armillary sphere: it was very helpful. I think you made a slight error, however, in the calculation of sunrise and sunset times, when you set the current date at the equinox (not the summer solstice). The angle, as shown, would then be 90 degrees from the meridian, and using your calculation that makes sunrise and sunset 6 hours before and after noon respectively, which for the equinox is absolutely correct. It just shows what a beautiful instrument the armillary sphere was in the past, and still is, despite our modern knowledge of the heliocentric system. The sphere showed, of course, the 'apparent' cosmos - not the actual one - but highly accurately all the same. It was real science in its day, and as you demonstrated it still works wonderfully well. Thanks again.

Very informative. I always had wondered about them, seeing them in many renaissance paintings, not knowing exactly what they were. Thanks for the info!

@@eli-vu3vb Its certainly something I could do, I didn't print one though. Im sure a product like this could be purchased on amazon or ebay for less than the effort of printing one. YEP: amazon has them for $15 - $20... lots of them. If I were to charge someone to print this with FDM, it would probably be in the $40 range depending on size and would have low detail. To print in resin, it would be significantly more, $100, but would be high detail. Really depends on size though... but that would be plastic. The ones on amazon are metal for $20, so thats hard to beat. I should add, if i wanted one for myself, it might cost me $4-5 in plastic, so i could save money, but it would take a couple hours to clean and assemble and glue... so it comes down to how valuable your time is, or if your pursuits on the experience is worth the investment of the time. Some people like building models, so printing your own might be more fun... also the option of customizing the model before printing it, making it truly a one of a kind. So printing does have benefits, but not for production at hardly any scale, unless its more of a prototype or one off situation.

The armillary "sphere" is based on a horizontal flat circle as the base with various arc in the sky through which the heavens move. It's a flat earth model. Of curse it's a device based on a specific location. Also, this one is missing the small sun and moon that was inside the hemisphere.

This is actually a Flat Earth instrument, created by people who comprehended the truth. Don’t let that recently added globe inside fool you…again. Crazy to think back how my government deceived me into believing that I lived on a ever-spinning giant ball. Picture a basketball being spun on a finger….at a certain point, 100% of the time the ball eventually stops spinning. But not the magical spinning ball Earth! 🌏 🤣 The spinning globe theory is RIDICULOUS 💯

No, you are thinking of the later heliocentric model by copernicus. This is the geocentric model. Note the horizon ring (plane of inertia) stays flat and the ball in the middle remains still. If you slice the ball in two I would say we are living in the bottom half like a giant crater. If the sun and moon were in this model it would make more. The sun makes a figure of eight in the sky over a year or an analemma pattern which fits this model. Plus the ancients were using this model for thousands of years before Copernicus came along and put his spin on it....

the "flat earth" is actually using the armillary sphere, a form of the astronomical clock. since it's using the geocentric model in the first place. Masonic cosmology.

Ridiculous comment, the NASA fan club are the ones who have updated it with a stupid globe in the center. Thank your owners for dumbing you down so well. Staying down is a choice though….
