Love it will be doing this for sure with and E90 wheel, just one question though, why did you add the momentary switches instead of using the pads on the BMW circuit board?
@Flybrick_S60R Жыл бұрын
Great question, I should have addressed in the video. I tried to use the BMW ones, but Fanatec has 3 different negative circuits for the buttons and BMW shared all negatives, this meant it was conflicting and when I pressed the BMW several buttons were being triggered in the Fanatec, then I just thought easier to add the momentary switch.

@Flybrick_S60R Жыл бұрын
I plan to make the detailed tutorial on a new Volvo. The construction process is very similar. Once the Volvo is done I might do another E60. I enjoy BMWs too. As for Logitech or Thrustmaster, I wouldn't recommend unless they are direct drive, the steering wheel is heavier and wider and will dampen the FFB.

Man this is amazing. I’m 27 now, but I’ve been a car enthusiast since I was little, now I have 3 kids of my own and a 4th on the way and within the next 2 years me and my wife are going to buy a 4600sqft home that has a 1000sqft rec room in it and we both agreed that this would be an amazing addition into the room. Our kids would absolutely lose their minds and I feel like this would be the perfect way to allow their minds to blossom in the automotive world at a young age, and we want to make sure they always have something fun for their friends to do when they come over. I’ve been an electronic automotive technician since I got out of college so this seems like an amazing project and I’m super excited to see your tutorials on how you make it all work. I’m sure you’ve been asked before but what would you estimate your total cost in this project has been?
@Flybrick_S60R Жыл бұрын
For cost it is important to break down in 3 components. 1 - PC and Display, 2- Peripherals (Wheelbase, shifter, pedals, steering wheels, ambient lights, haptics) 3 - Simrig (car parts, wood for the frame, metal to secure wheelbase, carpet, arduinos and LCD screens for navigation and digital cluster if one prefers.) So the cost for 1 depends a lot on your budget, here it is hard to use others as reference. #2 agai, can be be as little as just a logitech or thrustmaster or as expensive as a simucube. As for 3, which is what makes my simrig unique, if you buy parts at a local pick and pull, not only it is way cheaper and the brand doesn't matter but you'll learn the ins and outs of your dashboard, I spent $400 in car parts, $150 in electronics and $150 in wood, metal, carpet for a total of $700 USD for the simrig.

Any idea on how to make the e90 button LEDs to work?
@Flybrick_S60R Жыл бұрын
Yes. What I did in my other steering wheel was I tapped into Fanatec's 3v and negative, once you connect it straight into the leds, as soon as power is on it should turn it on. Gotta check first if the leds on the board are 3v, Volvo's are.

nice idea , but a srm adapter makes things way more easy , even the tiny one, so you dont have to sac. an fanatecc wheel,. arduiono the buttons connect with coiled usb.
@Flybrick_S60RАй бұрын
Yes I agree! At the time there was only one adapter for Fanatec and the price was $99, my reasoning was that buying that at 99 dollars wasn't worth when for a little more you get the buttons too and a "seamless" integration. But nowadays I think it would be better with that tiny adapter. I might revisit this topic to show the process for a Moza wheelbase too.

Specifically concerning the monitors on your set up. For the price, space, flexibility and effort why not use a VR headset? I'm sure there are hurdles for interfacing with the software and all that. But I was just curious. (I asked on insta gram too haha)

Hey, it is a valid question. I do have VR, specifically a Quest 2, I have tried both expensive VR and my Quest and they make me sick, so for me there is that limitation. Besides, having tried both I now think that my current setup with 3 TVs is more immersive than VR, nothing heavy weighting my head down, no heat, etc..

This is cool and all. No offence, i think the fanatec wheel looks way better than the cheap bmw wheel you picked-up. You basically downloaded the rig.
@Flybrick_S60R Жыл бұрын
Thank you! But having 5 different quality and types of Fanatec wheels I'd have to disagree. The BMW paddle shifter is nice and solid, the buttons are very firm and the feeling of real leather is way better than the whatever Fanatec uses. But even still it is hardly a downgrade once the steering wheels are removable and I tend to use different wheels for different purposes.
