Thank you for the ring grips tutorial! Yours was the most simple, yet comprehensive and clearly explained video for gymnastic rings grips that I’ve found on KZbin and Amazon. Most other videos from other sources seem to focus mostly on non-ring/CrossFit maneuvers.

Hi! Great video. I'm new to gymnastics and high bar but just bought some grips to save my hands. I bought the biggest size I could, but can't stretch out my hand flat with these grips on, it's like they force my hand into a curve shape. Is this normal? 😁👍
@ringsking2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! There is supposed to be a pocket that the bar or rings go into. You don't want them too big because then something called grip lock can happen, so a curve shape is actually good. Good luck!

Great video! can these grips be used for general freestyle calisthenics as well or should I opt for grips without a dowel?
@ringsking Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm not entirely sure what general freestyle calisthenics entails, but these dowel ring grips are meant for swinging bigger on rings and the dowel is shaped to fit just rings (not high bar or uneven bars). They might work for other stuff and you could probably try things out, but if they're used on other things they might get stretched out or the pocket that gets developed into the leather grip from swinging on regular rings, might change and then may have an issue when using them back again on regular rings. Just my opinion though and good luck!

@@ringsking I guess the best would be to have a set for rings and the set for the bar. I’m currently using gloves but it makes gripping really hard cause it makes it so much thicker…

Thanks for the video ! Any advice on grips to use for the traveling rings? I just bought the Reisports with dowel.. hard to get used to.. Help!
@ringsking4 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome! You should get used to the grips after a few sessions of swinging with them (they tend to break in quick). And by traveling rings do you mean the swinging rings? Not too sure about them sorry

Hey Ring King, I was wondering what you think would be the best grips option for crossfit training. They do not allow the dowel during official competition but I’m talking about day to day training to save the hands and assist with grip. Would you use different grips for Rings and Bars in the sport of crossfit?
@ringsking3 жыл бұрын
Hey Austin, I am not that familiar with crossfit but think that the dowel would be more helpful for doing bigger swing type skills (in not ripping off) and for more strength type stuff (muscle ups/kips) just the leather grip might help with getting a good grip/false grip and save the hands. But you can try them both and see what you think (maybe the dowel can be more helpful in day to day work)
@ARoweSox183 жыл бұрын
@@ringsking thank you for the response. do you have any specific brands/models you would recommend?

Hey no problem. I use Reisport velcro dowel grips (size 1) and get them from a place called the Chalk Up Shop (you can google it and you usually get them pretty quick/like 2-3 days. I've been using this site for 25+ years and also this same Reisport brand)

I dont know what this element is called in english. But i never used grips for rings. So yesterday i tried from hanging upside down to kip into forward swing. And i lost my grip and fell 3 meters deep. So now i know that they are really life saving... As well I wonder if they help me getting a shortened lever in the iron cross. Because right know i struggle with getting a good overgrip when lowering to the cross... does it help a lot ?

I hope you are ok from your fall. And yeah, I do feel grips help make a cross easier as I can roll my wrists better with them. Good luck with your training!

When should one worry about getting worried about getting ring wraps?/ what lvl is appropriate to start using ring wraps
@ringsking3 жыл бұрын
When you are doing some medium to bigger swing you can probably get some ring grips. They will help you hold on better and will also help for skills like a back uprise and inlocates and dislocates. Good luck!

Hi. Was wondering if you recommend the same grips for just mainly strict ring muscle ups? My false grip seems to not be improving enough to be able to do them yet. If not the reisport ones you showed, then i was wondering if you could recommend a basic one specifically just for ring muscle ups-something that helps me keep my false grip secure. I am more powerlifting focused but ive always wanted to do muscleups and more volume with basic strength exercises on rings because i love them. Definitely not planning on doing the advanced gymnastics stuff for sure but i want to eventually work toward weighted strict ring muscleups . Thanks in advance and nice moves!
@ringsking3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I've been using the Reisport dowel velcro ring grips for 25 plus years and personally think they can help with muscle ups as well as with bigger swinging skills. They do have ring grips without a dowel that could probably help with getting a secure grip and are less expensive than dowel ones too. And good luck with your training goals!

@@ringsking i was also considering the victory 2 hole grips. I got the victory grip false grip straps and barely tried them yesterday, with some frustration, in that they dont seem to help keep my false grip locked in. They only cover the wrist portion so no coverage on my hands. You got me thinking the dowel could make it easier on me. The reisport seems solid especially having been around as long as you’ve been using them. Appreciate the feedback

Hey Carl - I'm about your height, weight and age too :) and use Reisport ProTec ring grips to swing on traveling rings (outdoors e.g. Santa Monica, NYC Riverside Park). My worn grips are size 1 and I'm wondering if I should try breaking in a 2. My palm to fingertip length is 7.25 which is a 2 by their charts. Thoughts?
@ringsking2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, years ago I used to use a size 2 on rings but the rings seemed to slip/roll around in the grip and gave me an uneasy feeling when I would do bigger swing type skills like bails from a handstand so I tried size 1 and have been using them for like 15 plus years. I personally might just like mine a little on the smaller side also as they tend to stretch some over time but I would say it's really up to you. I've been to the rings at Santa Monica 25 or so years ago and it's really cool there. I think for outdoor stuff a size 2 would probably be fine.

Does the dowel catch on the apparatus some times when you are trying to let go? Only when the size is wrong?
@ringsking3 жыл бұрын
Hey no I never had that issue. I have had the feeling of the ring rolling around in the grip/slippery like you are going to rip off, when the grips have been too big though. They do stretch some over time and depending on how much you swing big, you replace them (I usually get a new pair every year or 2 and swing a fair amount)

I bought one recently (i'm a self learner) and I cannot go into false grip with them. For example in front levers, hefesto (not rings gymnastic movement). Could give a tip?
@grzegorzjedrzejowski57464 жыл бұрын
I wanted to use them for those transition like in zenetti, van gelder, muscle ups. Is it worth money or it's better to train bare hands. My main concern was wrist pain from false grip (probably to deep into ring)
@ringsking4 жыл бұрын
Does your grip in the grips feel slippery? (like the ring rolls around in them?). To get my grip with grips on, I scuff up the grips a little with a wire grip brush and then add a little water/spit on them and then chalk and this usually gives me a very nice grip. Hopefully the grips are the right size too (if they are too big the rings can feel like they roll around in the grips too). And if the grips aren't broken in yet, the pocket just might not be developed enough yet. Maybe just keep working with them for a month or so and see how they feel after a while. Good luck with your training

@@ringsking thanks for response. The size is S2 which is 18.5 cm, my hand is 19 cm, next size was 20 cm, so I think their lenght is good. However I need to make holes bigger. I wasn't training with them much because I was not sure if I want to keep them. I'm going to give them a go another time. They were a little slippery, but my main concern was that they were so stiff I had troubles closing my hands and was not able to hold a false grip
@ringsking4 жыл бұрын
Hey no problem and ok cool. For the finger holes, you can roll up a piece of sandpaper and gently twist it in the holes but be careful you don't do too much.

I was wondering which glove out of the two, would be okay to use on both apperatus(rings and bars)? Would bar gloves work on rings or Visa versa?
@ringsking3 жыл бұрын
Hey, they are different grips for different events (for high bar the dowel is smaller and goes on 3 fingers, for rings the dowel is much fatter and goes on 2 fingers). If you use the same grips for both events, the pocket that you are trying to develop into the leather of the grip won't have the best chance of becoming developed for the specific event it is for. It can be possible especially if you are not swinging too big, but it isn't really the best lol. And here are some Reisport velcro rings grips that I use from amazon if you wanted to take a look amzn.to/3AKdqHB. Good luck with your training too!

I tried ordering these from Amazon... I kept getting the wrong size, it happened twice. I ordered large I got small. I gave up on them. Maybe i'll try a different store... Do you think these are still useful or overkill for someone doing mostly strength skills on the rings? (FL/BL/IC/PL) etc. (no swings) Thanks!
@ringsking4 жыл бұрын
In my opinion grips still help for crosses (I can roll my wrists better and keep my grip with grips on for this skill). It probably won't help too much for back levers or planches but couldn't hurt. I've been getting my grips for 25+ years from this place chalkupshop and their service has always been good. Good luck with your training!

The dowel is different for ring grips and high bar grips and the high bar grips have 3 holes for fingers vs. 2. And the pocket that is developed for rings once broken in some would be different for high bar so it wouldn't be the most ideal.
