I know this video is old but to make them work very easily is just to go settings and then devices. Go to audio devices then microphone level. Once on that screen just plug in and out your EarPods and they will work the second time you connect them then you can leave the settings screen.

it only works for the old PS4 remotes (the ones without the light bar at the top of the touch pad), but on those remotes it worked for my Beats Studios as well
