I accidentally discovered this! My track wasn't recording, I had a very small punch part in it that was limiting to some milliseconds, which I noticed it was there because I just had some tiny recording. I came here to this video, and discovered the auto-punch, which is something I was figuring out how to do but I knew that one day I would discover by accident. Today was that day!

Literally last night I was trying to figure out how to hear the vocal on the track I was punching in on so that I get the same vibe and continuity. Then I finally discovered the autopunch feature after much googling. I should have just waited 12 hours for this video! Haha

you can highlight a section with the marquee tool. then you can set the loop section bigger than the marquee section. now you have a lead-in before it hits the marquee selection and starts recording only the marquee selection. important: for the marquee record to work, make sure “play from marquee” is un-selected from the play options.

The clearest explanation yet. Thank you very much. "I'll be back" to check out other tips! If you happen to be using the Universal Audio apollo twin interface, please start doing tutorials for that as their tutorials are complete and utter rubbish!

I just randomly found your channel looking for tips for my own recording and I have to leave a comment bc I checked out a few videos now and I really like your delivery. A lot of channels do those gimmicks and will talk nonsense before getting to the actual tips and also I feel like it’s easy to learn from your channel cos you explain stuff in real talk not all crazy like I would need a degree or something lol so thanks. And also your music is hot lol. I’m subscribed now lol

YESSSSSS!!!!!! thank you so much for these videos. I've been recording on logic and learning as i go because youtube tutorials are mostly dudes who blather away for 80% of the video without giving straightforward information. it got to be really frustrating. you are the best teacher I have seen thus far. Thank you for this lesson. Also, your song is super catchy.

Is it possible to select multiple takes from the auto punch feature? For example, set it up to auto punch and record on loop a four bar section, record 20 takes, and use 5 of them for doubling, layering, and panning on separate tracks? Thanks!
@ShannonModrell3 жыл бұрын
I'd love to know this, too.
@ProduceLikeaBoss3 жыл бұрын
Yes! You can do exactly that! Just keep recording in the auto-punch with Cycle on, and it will create a comp folder of all your takes! You can edit different ones together for the final take, and you can put all the other ones onto their own tracks afterwards! :)
@MarionRelics Жыл бұрын
How do you make it so you can hear yourself before the auto-punch start point? On mine, my signal mutes once I start recording and doesn't come back until the punch point, which is a big problem because I can't get on pitch and into the flow!

Great video, are you supposed to punch in on a different track or the same track? Please help
@ProduceLikeaBoss3 жыл бұрын
Punching in is only necessary if you're doing it on the same track. If you're doing it on a separate track, there's no need for it - you can just cut and paste into the final track if you do it that way. :)
@NationalDeputy3 жыл бұрын
@@ProduceLikeaBoss thank you so much, that makes sense! I’m still a newbie to this stuff! I just started using logic a few months ago. I recorded a verse for a song I’m doing and punched in for that verse where I needed 2 and it came out good. Now I need to record/finish verse 2. That means I would record verse 2 on a different audio track right ? And not the same audio track as verse 1 ? I’m confused because I don’t want the verses 2 sound differently from each other in terms of quality.

I use a UAD interface and it has a console app. I rely heavily on getting my vocal sound inside console app. I don't ever set Logics track Input Monitoring on becuase when I do I hear slap latency and phasing- is there a way to do this without having input monitoring on? I notice when I do NOT have input monitoring on, I still hear the previously recorded vocal while Im trying to punch in, it's awful. Any work arounds?
@HavnMotion2 жыл бұрын
where im having trouble at is... on every other DAW, when u punch in. u can hear the vocals you've laid down before your punch in section. so everything u said before and after your punch in section should play. but it isn't and its really bothering me. how do I fix this

what I am looiking for and can't seem to find the answer, is when I am doing midi and I am recording, in a loop that it stops recording and I don't hear what I recorded into midi. and its mad annoying.

At 4:30 when you "chop/chop/insert", how do you ensure the audio is pasted in place when dragging the audio without having to use "paste in place" feature?

As long as the session is set to tempo , you can slide things easily on grid/in time.
