Excellent results! Some points to consider. 1. Use an electric drill rather than a battery drill...my fully charged battery didn't last long enough for one headlamp...YMMV. 2. If you do this with the bonnet open, cover the engine...mine was covered in white spots when I'd finished. 3. Don't skimp on the masking tape....use plenty of layers especially around sharp corners.

I have used this many times!! Just a three things first was always ware a mask when dry sanding you don't won't plastic (polycarbonate) particles in your lungs, And always select a slow setting when sanding and light pressure on the drill head otherwise you risk burning and damage to the lens, And lastly applying a professional clearcoat adds another level of clarity, Not to mention longevity of clarity of the lens!! Great straight up introductions Brilliant well done!!😎🇬🇧👍

Ok, its a shame i cant post a picture but this made a HUGE difference on my headlights. They were really yellow and hazy, but now they literally look brand new and shiny as hell. It took 3 hours (prep work included) And i cant feel my right arm, but it was totally worth it. I think the final result may vary depending how well you sand the headlights. I took my sweet time with every grid. UV sealer may be a good idea to add.

Glad that the kit worked out well for you, we did not include a UV sealer because during our testing of them we did not find one that actually made a huge difference vs the uncoated lense. The uncoated lense will remain clear for well over a year, so you may find it is not always required. .

@AutoglymUK
@AutoglymUK 4 жыл бұрын
This kit is for the removal of hazing caused over time, it was not designed to remove scratches or gouges. It may improve the area, but be aware it is unlikely to remove any deep scratching. In order to achieve an even finish, you should always treat the entire light cluster.

Hi, just restored my 06 Freelander headlights using this restoration kit and I must say I have never seen headlights so clear, they look like new units. I was a bit sorry to see there is no UV protection included in the kit. What would you recommend I use to keep them looking sooooo good?
@AutoglymUK
@AutoglymUK 3 жыл бұрын
Great to hear! During the development of this kit we tested various UV protection solutions and found that none of them made any real difference to headlight fading following renovation with the kit. The same unit faded at the same sort of rate whether it had a UV spray on it or not. As a result, we decided not to include anything in the kit, as they do not appear to make a difference.

Yeah mate you can use a wax or sealant like Autoglym UHD or extra gloss protection but that will only last so long. For best results what I did was restore the headlight using the kit and then I sprayed 3 coats of clear coat (hycote clear gloss laquer) which I found on amazon for £10. It’s lasted a year so far.

I've just used this product to restore the headlights of my car which had become very yellow and cloudy, and was verging on becoming an MOT issue. However, when I used the P800 disc, it put a series of scratches into the surface of both headlights and a number of these were deep scratches, potentially creating a new issue for the car's MOT, which is due next month. I thought that if I continued to follow the remaining steps in this video then the scratches may be buffered out, however they still remained when the steps were completed. Does anyone have any advice on how to remove scratches from headlights so I can correct this problem? Apart from the scratches, this product worked brilliantly, removing all the yellow colouration and cloudy parts!

AutoglymUK my dewalt cordless, speed 1 is 550rpm, speed 2 is 2000rpm, so did it on speed 2 but not cranked all the way up. Great kit, only negative would be, for big transit lights, an extra sheet of the 800 and 1500 per light, and to have had a 2000 and 3000 pad per light would have been good. Though easily available on eBay. I’m sure for the average car, with much smaller lights, the pads supplied were adequate though. Otherwise, won’t lie, was nervous prior to doing them but they cleaned up really well! Few areas were quite bad (glazed maybe?) but those areas are much improved and the area where the actual beam is projecting is almost like new. Very pleased overall, was quoted 48€ per light, and done myself for whatever the cost of the kit was, £20-30 from Halfords (a few years ago) 👍🏼

How long is the effect likely to last? I assume once the polish has worn off we'd be back to a cloudy haze or even a yellowing? Rather than polishing, after the 3000 stage, could a clear coat with UV protection be applied for a longer lasting, if not permanent fix?

Whilst there are several UV protectors available to add to headlights after renovation, we have not found one that offers any real, meaningful long lasting protection. @AutoglymUK
@AutoglymUK 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Biff, the answer to the first question will depend on the severity of the defects that have to be removed each time. More severe = more material has to be removed = less goes at it in the future. Secondly, the speed at which is refades is a variable too, depending on exposure to UV, so the weather, storage conditions and even the type of plastic used in the first place, which can vary between vehicles. So having said all that, and indicating it is not possible to give a tangible answer, we will say that in our experience of using the kit, and the feedback we have received from customers, renovated lenses will remain clear for over 12 months without too much issue, however once they start to go, it is a job you will be repeating at some point in the future - there is no permanent fix.

How long would you say each headlight takes to do?
@AutoglymUK
@AutoglymUK 7 жыл бұрын
Around 20-30 minutes depending on how severe the hazing is on the lights. The more there is, the longer it will take.

Could you advise if a drill with a setting of 0-600rpm would be okay to use? Would it just take a little bit longer?
@AutoglymUK
@AutoglymUK 7 жыл бұрын
Not sure if that would work at all, or just take a lot longer. We recommended the speed setting in the video, as this is what we have found to work the best. We have not conducted testing at lower speeds, so would not want to guess and advise you without knowing the real answer.

What stops the headlights from oxidising again in a year? Is there any sealent/spray to put over?
@AutoglymUK
@AutoglymUK 4 жыл бұрын
We have headlights that were renovated using this kit over 12 months old that are still completely clear. The speed at which headlights fade after renovation is variable, but provided you renovate the lenses fully. You can apply a sealant after if you like, however, we have not found a solution's that provides any meaningful long term protection on this surface.

Would like to be able to buy some extra pads too. As mine came with 7 800 grit and only 3 1500 so I'm only going to be able to do 1 maybe 2 sets of headlights.

Can this kit be used with a DA polisher?
@AutoglymUK
@AutoglymUK 2 жыл бұрын
This kit, the flatting paper contents and the compound are all designed to work with a drill. It has not been tested with a DA, rotary or any other machine other than a drill - as such we are unable to comment with any certainty if it is suitable to use with a DA. Sorry for the long answer, but we wouldn't want to take a guess with your headlights, if you want to try it that is down to you - but we only use thins and recommend it is used with a drill as shown on the video.

How long does it last??
@AutoglymUK
@AutoglymUK 4 жыл бұрын
The conditions the lens is subjected to will cause it to deteriorate at different rates, however in the UK we have observed no deterioration in lenses 12 months after treatment. There is no definitive answer to your question I am afraid.

A new film of protection is needed after sanding, by sanding you`ll remove the previous layer of protection wich blocks out the UV rays, wich affects the headlights clearity [it is just a matter of time...]. A coating or wax like product will add some protection but a layer of clear coat would be advised.

You can add a sealant if you want, although we have not found one that actually makes a great deal of difference compared to leaving them unsealed. We tested several coatings side by side against a control lens that was un-coated and there was not a noticeable reduction in the speed of any fading. During development, we observed that restored, un-coated lenses were still perfectly clear after 12 months,

This won't work for long as you have removed the clearcoat without recoating, so it will start to oxidize again in no time
@AutoglymUK
@AutoglymUK 2 жыл бұрын
That's not strictly true - it depends on your definition of "in no time" Headlights that have been restored using this system have been remained clear for over 12 months since restoring. These are regularly used cars, stored outside in all the weathers, not garaged away out the sun. The headlights will start to fade again eventually, but not as quick as you may think, or have been led to believe.

To add UV protection, either Rapid Aqua Wax, Rapid Ceramic Spray or Super Resin Polish can be used. Adding a sacrificial layer will help protect against UV rays in general.
