Hi, welcome to ShuoshuoChinese 说说中文; my name is Shuo, I’m a native Chinese teacher living in Bangkok, Thailand, I’ve been teaching Chinese as a foreign language for more than 10 years and I’m also a language learner.
In this channel, I will upload a weekly video, in which I talk about Chinese vocabulary, Chinese grammar, Chinese culture, Chinese stories with pinyin and the English translation for listening practice.
With my channel, you can easily start to learn and understand complicated Chinese grammar, sentence structure, and differences/nuances between similar Chinese words.
If you are a Chinese beginner, I’m planning to upload videos about what Chinese language is, how it differs from English, Chinese pronunciations, Chinese characters and Chinese stroke sequences and a mini Chinese course, (10 minutes per day), which can help you learn quickly and easily. Don’t miss it!

The 把bă preposition is easy for languages that have an accusative case, like German, Russian and Greek. For example, 把句子 is den Satz. It's like him instead of he. 我把他请来了: I invited him. So 我把朋友们都请来了is I invited all my friends 😊

Very helpful video, but I dont udnerstand why people think this is one of the hardest grammar point to learn. This grammar is basically this: "grab (phisically or figuratively)THIS and do THIS with it" 把 does mean "hold" or "grap", so it makes perfect sense. For example this sentence: 把你的名字寫在這裏 > this is basically just "grab your name and put/write it here" :D I think people are overthinking it. Anyways, very nice video :)

That was super helpful! I've picked up on some of this from all the dramas I've watched, so I guessed where the 把 would go in the sentence most of the time.

Many students have told me, "I've watched your video about 把, and it was a brilliant video that I loved!" However, it is sometimes followed by a "but"... "But I don't remember what it said, and I still can't use 把 correctly." My biggest takeaway from my 2023 language learning journey is that it is important for you to truly understand the inner logic of a grammar structure. However, understanding a grammar point doesn't guarantee that you can use it naturally in conversation. Increasing the input and building an intuition of the language is another key point in language learning. Besides having a video that thoroughly explains the "ba" structure grammatically, I also want to help you understand "ba" sentences in a more passive way, and that’s why I uploaded this video. Studying with these two videos can make it much easier and much more effective.

Could you please explain why in sentence #4 课 has a classifier 节, but in sentence #5 doesn't
@mountaintag
@mountaintag 11 ай бұрын
In sentence #4 we have: 这节课 ("this class"). I think that 这 needs to be followed by a measure word (such as 节). In sentence #5, there is no 这 (nor any number, such as 一, 两, 三, etc.) so you can't use a measure word (which needs 这, 那, 每, or a number in front of it).

on second thoughts, it raises another question: why sometimes there is 这 after 把 and sometimes there is not. Just to use example from this video: 把垃圾扔了吧。Shouldn't it be 把这个垃圾人了吧。Since we obviously are talking about the specific garbage.
@mountaintag
@mountaintag 11 ай бұрын
@@irakliichichua6932 That's a good point. I think the answer is that Chinese tends to omit elements that are not necessary. If there is only one load of garbage, then I think it's not necessary to say 这个. However, if there were two loads of garbage, then I think we would say 这个 to distinguish it from 那个.

You wouldn't actually speak that fast in a normal conversation unless you were in a rush or were excited about something right? Maybe it depends on the person and their personality as well.

For sentence #3 we have: "I have already read this article twice" "我已经把这篇文章读了两遍" As a learner, I find this a little strange, because I thought using 把 means to transform something in some way. But the article is not changed by my reading it. Native speakers in any language sometimes bend the rules, so this should be okay. Still, if I wanted to say: "I have seen that movie two times" then "我把那部电影看了两遍" would be a little strange, even for native speakers.

I’m not sure if I’m correct but the way I have always understood 把 is as a way to reorder the subject, verb, and object. Kind of like passive voice does in English? Normally the sentence is SVO, but with 把 it becomes S把OV. I ba cake eat, instead of I eat cake.
@mountaintag
@mountaintag 11 ай бұрын
@@jameskennedy7093 I think you are right. In general. But 把 cannot be used in every case. In your example, if I ask "What did you eat after dinner?" and you answer 我把蛋糕吃了 then this begs the question "Which cake?". Because 把 can only be used with specifically known objects. Otherwise, you'd have to say: 我吃了蛋糕. Also, 把 cannot be used with verbs of perception (such as 看 in my example above) because an object is not transformed by being looked at. In the teacher's example, it may be okay, because she may have picked up the article several times to read it (so it was manipulated).
@ranulfdoswell
@ranulfdoswell 11 ай бұрын
I've never thought about 把 as transforming something, but actually just a metaphorical holding of something prior to performing an action on it. Obviously "take" would literally be 拿, but we often use it in the same way in English as 把 in these examples, e.g. this one could be translated as "take this article, I've already read it twice".
