1) 爬山 = "hiking" Although 爬山 looks like "mountain climbing" I have only seen it used for "hiking". I think that "mountain climbing" is 登山. 2) 一晚没睡 = "didn't sleep all night" vs. 睡一晚 = "sleep one night" We are taught that the time-duration should follow the verb. But when an action did not happen, then the time-duration actually precedes the verb. 3) 补给站 = "supply station" This 给 is not "gěi" and doesn't mean "give". It is "jǐ" and it means "provide".

Thanks. In answer to the questions, I think (1) you started running in September last year (2) the race started at 4am on a Sunday morning and (3) you completed the race in a shorter time than you had set yourself by speeding up a bit near the finish.

Forgot to add, my current level of Chinese is between Beginner and Intermediate. As far as conversations go, I can usually always pick out individual words, but unless the conversation is extremely simple, I have difficulty following what the speaker is trying to get across. I got my answers to your questions by playing the vlog twice and specifically concentrating on the parts relevant to the questions. For the entire vlog, I would put my comprehension around 40-50%.

That’s awful to start at 4AM. I don’t think that’s fair to anyone. I did my 1st half marathon in 2019 and I trained listening to Chinese podcast and Chinese songs. I was lucky to finish at 2:06. Then, next I got a PB of 2:02. Last July, I finished Japan’s hardest course at 2:31😢. I felt it was too slow. But certainly, I will probably just not sleep at all if I have to wake up at 2am. 😖 I don’t run as much anymore because I just plateaued. I prefer to mix it up, doing multiple sports than running so much which just makes me prone to injuries.
@DashingPartyCrasher11 ай бұрын
Agree completely! The marathon starting time was not healthy. And long distance running is supposedly bad for joints, over time. It's fun now and then, but as a habit it's healthier to run sprints or just do fast walking.
@katyb279311 ай бұрын
I'm wondering if they did it that early as it's the coolest part of the day?
@duozuo11 ай бұрын
@@katyb2793 That's probably one of the reasons, since it can get terribly hot in those latitudes, as I experienced in Vietnam (adding an uncomfortable degree of humidity). The other reason could be that, after the half marathon, the full-lenght marathon would had to be run on the same course, so everyting is tuned to suit them better. But that's just a guess based on similar events I know.

You know the first Marathon runner, the man in Ancient Greece who ran from Marathon to Athens to warn of the Persian invasion, died after completing his run? Also, Jim Fixx, who started the jogging craze back in the 1970s in the USA died young - in his 40s or 50s. Turns out running around in circles doesn’t actually make you live longer…
