we use in the night time /in the day time for unspecific time period we can even use 'during night/during day - I like to read outside in the daytime when there is no noise I like to study in the nighttime ( 7 to 11 or 10pm to 2am - unspecific period) When you talk about 'night' it is only AT NIGHT - I read books at night ( for some time before bed) When you talk about a long period of time we use 'in' ( for few hours)
