I just got into cerakote. I started with a rifle of mine that won’t quit rusting through the crap parkerization. But plan to restore some vintage motorcycles in the future and plan to use it as much as I can on those. Also for the shaking of cerakote I made a sawsall attachment. 12” harbor freight work clamp and tig welded the sawsall blade to the end of the clamp. Works great.

If you haven't already, you should make a completely separate video about coating the bore(s) of a brake caliper. I've never heard of that before, and it was very interesting information.

I do it backwards... (maybe because I'm in Australia) but I Sandblast first, (then after blowing down with compressed air) I soak in Acetone for 1 hour minimum, then gas out in oven, then let the coatings begin... Every item I have coated has come out magic... Cheers from Melbourne, Australia

👍 makes no difference which way around you do it. I tend do it that way with steel parts but outgas before blast.

Moisture build up in brake fluid is a big cause of seal swell as it gets under the caliper seals and causes the sticky piston syndrome we all used to if our bikes stand . Good that you tested the tolerance with cerakote , makes sense to have that resistant coating there as it's got to help moisture attacking the bare alloy ! I would definitely go with a full coating as apposed to leaving the seal and piston seat bare 👍

They are coated as standard from the factory, we do have the odd customer requesting not to coat inside but same as yourself I would much prefer to have some protection there! Cheers Dad!

Thanks for the Vid. Can I ask what blasting cabinet you use and if you rate it, I will be getting one soon and still debating what way to go and if I need to go for a pressure blaster as opposed to a syphon blaster. Also, what are you using for an oven? Also see according to your door that you use Multi-Mix? Thinking of giving their 2k epoxy primer a go. Do you rate it?

I have a harbor freight cabinet and I did the "metering valve" diy upgrade. Bad body sprays consistently with 100 grit. I have a california airtools 10gallon air compressor and I have a 33 gallon (tank only) auxiliary tank. Plenty of air to run the cabinet and spray gun! CAT are not loud compressors which is why I chose it.

Great Video very helpful! Is there a limit to how long you can ambient cure the h-series? I have a batch of burnt bronze parts I wanted coat in one go around. Can I can just ambient cure all the parts until I spray the last part in the batch. Or do they need to go in oven within an certain time frame?
@UniqueCoatings Жыл бұрын
I've left them up to 24 hours before now. They won't be fully cured until they have been baked though.

Great video Mick and enjoyed the live chat last night, learnt a lot from your video as I didn't know you could bake cerakote, the colour seem to look darker after coming out of the oven but that might just be the lighting I do like the colour as well, look forward to the next one and thanks for taking the time to do the vids Mick as I know editing is very time consuming, cheers 🤗👏👍

Cheers John. It's always a pleasure to have your support buddy. It definetly was the lighting, still learning how to use modern technology with the camera and editing etc, I'll get it right soon.
@JohnWD40TC023 жыл бұрын
No probs mate and don't worry about the lighting as these modern cameras have become so small they are easily confused in different lighting conditions and colours, ask Tony as he had issues with his gopro I told him to change the white balance to a fixed colour temp rather than auto, I don't know if it was my doing but I think he got it sorted 👍

quick question - I just had a metal slide cerakoted with hunter orange H series. when I brought it home I rubbed a paper towel on it and some orange residue came off especially from the inside of it. is this normal?

No. Ask them redo and blast it

Wait so you split you motorcycle calipers and just hit it all and even inside the piston sitting area?!
@UniqueCoatings2 жыл бұрын
Calipers have to be split to remove seals that won't take oven temperatures. All the caliper is coated yo prevent future corrosion or porosity issues. The bores are costed in a polymer ceramic coating as standard so why not coat them again?
@X2hedX2 жыл бұрын
@@UniqueCoatings No concern. Just I've been looking for someone who has done this already. I have calipers split ready to go and seals out. Just thought I had to leave the machine facing as well as the piston bore (as well as both seal areas).
@UniqueCoatings2 жыл бұрын
If you want it done contact TM Specialist Coatings Ltd 😉 leaving the bores and machined faces is more if you have them powder coated.

@@UniqueCoatings Should I plug the all the openings first before blasting? Are all of the H Series cerakotes thin enough to be applied to caliper seal areas? (just blows my mind that it's even possible)
