I use this same starrett combo square at my metal fab shop.. They are hands down the absolute best squares I have ever used..

I found a Starrett 180° Bevel Protractor in a bad condition because they though it was not working due to the fact that it was not rotating to indicate degrees. I fixed it and painted black as it originally was manufactured. Marvellous tool and now it looks like new. Score for me, because locally they are over US $200

Starrett was unfortunately finally bought out. Who knows if the tools will stay the same quality. Buy while you can!

"Used most commonly in woodworking"? Maybe Starrett has numbers to back that up, but I'd almost bet money that given the price of a high quality and accurate combination set then a much higher percentage of machinist's own them than all the woodworkers combined. With today's CNC and higher numbers of CMM's in general use then yes there's a lot less need for them now as there once was. But if that is true it will surprise me.
