Hello. Thanks for the very good tutorial, although it didn't answer a question I have. When and Why do you use the dome light? For what reason instead of the normal skylight? What does it change or allow you to do, besides HDRIs, that the normal sunlight cant?

Thank you so much ! I just use your directions for a work I was doing today. It turned out quite nice. I find that when I use an HDRI sky, it always starts very dark. Is there a way to adjust the light separately or ( sun ) intensity, and the sphere light ?

Yeah you just have to increase the intensity by a lot and if it gets too bright then use the highlight burn function to reduce the washed out areas of the render ^.^

In older version of Vray i use the sun enviroment for increase the effect of the shadows and make a little more "sun day effect". They're basically the same, but Locking the domelight then rotating it is a lot easier than adjusting uvw rotation. 😊

Hey man! So it completely depend on your HDRI, some are shot with backgrounds closer. Others have it farther away. I would recommend going to HDRI haven to find what works best for you. It's all free HDRI :)

This is an older version. For version turn on use transform. Also you cant scale the HDRI, you have to choose a different one

Thanks for the response! I have only recently upgraded to the new Vray for sketchup, as I was using Vray 2 still. I'm having a hard time to configure the Vray sun Engine in 3.4. I have tried everything, but I just don;t get the same result like I did in Vray 2. Basically increasing the sun settings to illuminate an interior scene. If you could in any way help with the normal sun settings, that would be awesome! Thanks again for the response.

The easiest way to maybe help me, is to explain your lighting setup in your realistic Materials video? The last part where you explain the addition of a reflection map. I tried making my own version of that part, but I only get light coming in on small precise spots, if that makes sense.

Are you using sunlight or HDRI for lighting? If sunlight then adjust sketchup shadows settings. If HDRI then just change to a different HDRI

im use Vray 3.4 too but why there's no "spherical" feature in dome light setting?

Yeah they changed it, its under parameters settings withing the domelight, in the shape option change it from hemisphere to sphere
