I used ERS exactly the way you did in this video but I also learned something. I knew how it works for most of the part but always wondered why I had some "loss" when recovering/harvesting ERS. I didn´t realize that the drivers use a bit of ERS even when the harvest mode is on. 🙈

May I add an idea? I Avoid using the X16 game speed up while in deploy, defend or overtake. You end up in an ERS hole very quickly. Am I correct?

You are. ERS burns out after 2 laps in a high deployment mode which can fly by in just a few seconds at x16 speed. This is a good tip!

I agree. Something I have experienced with x16 that is helpful, though, has to do with difficult to pass slower cars. I have watched my drivers struggle to make a pass at x1 but as soon as x16 is applied, they are usually passed within a few laps. Perhaps something to do with the lack of rendering at those speeds?

is it basically just use it when passing then harvest it. then use it again then harvest it.

Not quite as harvest will really slow you down. Try to use the neutral or top-up mode when not overtaking or defending.

I have heard and also have noticed that when you put the car into harvest mode that you get slower laps. Does this only happen when your ERS goes to zero or when you turn on harvest at anytime?

Think of ERS as a speed boost function. When in normal usage, you use the same amount of energy, for extra speed, as you harvest, 2Mj worth. When in harvest mode, you still regain the same 2Mj worth of energy, but you only use half as much, 1Mj, as you would in normal mode. This means less energy used for a speed boost and why you are slower when harvesting and even slower still when there is no energy left. 🙂
