My God, FINALLY someone made a video on this! I've been wanting to make my spider girl for ages and thought I'd be forced to animate all her walking movements by hand. Thank you!

Question: How do u change how it walks? Like normally it walks like a spider. what if I want it to walk like a four-leg creature like cats or dogs?

You can set different settings in the VRIK and add rotation constraints to the FABRIK to try to fine tune its rotations. I personally have not gone done that route but I know others have.

could you do a video on how we can do 4 legged avatars? I've been dreaming for doing a horse rider of some sort but I have no clue how... even just a centaur avatar might provide some info... because the back legs keep floating/sinking whilst the front stay legs stay levelled with the ground... I tried rigid bodies but even that didnt fix and I have no idea how to pull it off with IK

I don't need to make a video since it's the exact same process. Every pair is its own system. If you want 4 less legs, just do only two pairs.

@@Scionzenos though one last question... is this IK thing possible to pull off for desktop users? just a curious question as a friend of mine who hasnt got VR yet tried to make a feral wolf but didnt work out well cause the back legs kept getting floaty and I dont think she knows how the IK thing works

@@mira55x-planetnalzena15 The system works for anything. Desktop/VR/FBT and for humanoids and generics. If you have other questions or problems it would be best to join the discord as there are more resources there.

So... Ive been trying to find a way to make a caricature where it has 2 legs, but then the two legs can split into...8, and still walk and move, how would I do that?

Since you cannot animate Final IK components once in game, I would have the VRIK and FABRIK influence unweighted, invisible duplicates of your legs. Then, use rotation constraints to make your actual spider legs follow the VRIK when you want, then set the weight to 0 to manipulate them further (like crumpling them up into 2 legs).

my feet only move vertically on play mode, and won't step at all. The IK is properly detecting the ground distance and aligning, but I can't get any movement from the legs otherwise.

Most of the things explained in the tutorial are the same as of this comment. However, the VRC IK Follower does not exist anymore in SDK 3. Instead of that, you should use Unity Constraints. There is an explanation on how to upgrade in the discord, linked in the description. The rotation trick will always be relevant as unity and blender use different axis.

The system can be used for any model with any number of legs. I've seen 2 legs up to around 16 or so.

the prefab rig you have in your discord doesnt have a chest bone or a root bone

The chest and root bone are both optional bones for the VRIK, the prefab is the most accurate representation of the current methods, the video is outdated at this point but still mostly accurate.

I was a bit confused by this. I'm completely new to final ik and am trying to make a creature that is centaur like. Do i do anything different and do i need to search anything for the "add component" button? A step by step would be appreciated but anything will help.

For a centaur you can copy all the steps in the video but only do the legs you have (front and back). Make sure you don't have any empty references of the legs you deleted. It may be easier to do something just like in the video to get your feet wet, and then move on to something different.

The system looks best when used on something that scuttles, but people have used it on quadrupeds like cats and dogs before without much trouble.

in the VRIK Script theres no Script, it says that i must fix any compile errors and assing a valid script

Make sure that you have imported Final IK. Otherwise everything will be an empty script. If you do have it imported there may be a conflict with something else in your project.

​@@Scionzenos The associated Script can not be loaded it says. weird, i have the 1.9 version of de Final IK and what about if my model is not a Spider? what about if it is a Person With Spider Legs? do i have to do the thing of cloning the Body Armature?

Hey, so i want to make an avatar (Crimson Typhoon from Pacific Rim) that has 3 arms. Is it possible i can make the 3rd arm mirror another arm?

Using final ik for that is overkill, just use rotation constraints on the 3rd arm and target one of the others.

by any chance, do these legs *have* to connect to the body, or could someone set it up so they connect to the hand instead?

The legs can connect to any point of the body, it's based on what all the targets are following.

​@@Scionzenos Ay appreciate the quick help, if it wouldn't be too much of a bother, my arachnid is supposed to have a somewhat wide stance with 4 legs, but all the legs squeeze to be in a row and it ends up constantly awkwardly tiptoeing around where it should be standing. Nonetheless, thanks for putting out the best video guide I've seen for this, love your sense of humor.

@@GoldphishAnimation Make sure to edit things in the VRIK like offset and foot distance. Has to be manually adjusted for every spider.

So ive managed to set up my avatar to use Final IK, the legs work, but it wont take any steps.

The avatar not taking any steps means that the VRIK is not processing, this is usually caused by unfilled non optional references. Remember to check your console to see if its specifically complaining about anything! Also keep in mind that if your avatar is much larger than the prefab it may look like its not taking any steps, but its just that they are very small.

@@SockUuno In the Solver portion of the VRIK, open both the Left Arm and Right Arm sections. In these sections there are two parameters: Wrist to Palm Axis and Palm to Thumb Axis. You should not have only 0s in these XYZ sections. While the specific values don't matter as far as I know, the values on the prefab are as follows: Wrist to Palm Axis: X0 Y1 Z0 Palm to Thumb Axis X1 Y0 Z0 Hope this helps!

@@SockUuno Stretching to infinity means that the VRIK cannot reach all its targets so it freaks out, make sure that you have each head and hip target for each VRIK positioned directly on top of its respective reference of its respective VRIK. I'll probably be able to help more effectively if you join the discord in the description. The discord also has more up to date information than the video (I'm making a new video soon!) so some things are a bit outdated.

It's the same concept, just only 4 legs instead of 8. You can delete the unneeded legs.

No, the only way to do IK in VRC is to use FIK. When it goes on sale it gets a 50% cut.
