The only problem with this is when you're riding, google maps "ends" at the first stop and you have to hit continue route or next destination or whatever. I wish there was a way to bypass this

You can also just right click on the middle of the route (where you want an ‘anchor point’) and choose “Add Destination” from the right click sub-menu. It will put add it to the route, in the correctly sorted order. Not a big thing. A tiny bit easier if you create a lot of routes.

Thank you forbthe helpful video. My gripe with the added stops is though that you physically have to pull over and tap your screen to let Google know you have arrived at point A and that you want to move on. Otherwise it keeps wanting to send you back to point A. Any solutions to just keep riding without stopping? Thanks man. Liked and subscribed.

When I make a tour, I may add one or more stops so I can 'force' a certain route. I have no intention to stop at these stops. Whenever I arrive or pass at a stop, Google Maps will require my physical input before continuing, even when I continue riding (both on the already suggested route or a different one). It goes even so far that, because it's no longer navigating, the screen will timeout and I have to unlock it. This will involve stopping along the side of the road, taking of my gloves, trying to unlock with a possibly wet finger (face recognition doesn't work with a helmet on), etc. Why does it not recognize I'm still riding and continue with navigation? I looked up how to turn it off and supposedly there is no way to do that.

Yes, makes Google Maps pretty much useless as a motorcycle navigator. Yet another "developer in windowless room thinking what's best for the user"-thing. Unbelievable how they ruined excellent app.

I too am looking at a solution, the only solution I have found so far, that works is with my Beeline Moto. I can convert a planned ride on google maps with stops (so that we get the correct route) and then convert to GPX and import into Beeline moto. But that does not help other riders who have google maps and phone in pockets.

@@MindBodySoulOk OMG! I literally had that issue yesterday. Was riding home from visiting a friend, 200 miles or so. Picked a nice route that I know has less traffic and overall more relaxing to ride. Half an hour into the ride, I notice that I'm on the wrong road. Check google maps, it changed the route just like that. I fixed it, went on, only to discover another half an hour into the trip that it changed it back again. I got super fed up, especially because it was really hot and there was a lot of congestion on the roads it was taking me on. I think it prefers to take the faster or shorter route, but sometimes a longer route has less traffic and is more enjoying.

Hi , I use syci for this sole purpose on my motorbike . I can set my A to B points, once I've selected start , I can the go back to the route, tap the screen on the road you want to ride and the system will automatically re-route using your way point. You can alter your route this way for as many times as you like. It's free to try, but it's really cheap licence to get sl, the functions. Give it a try, I find it better than, Google, calimoto, also there's a free app called Here we go. It's pretty good as well. Like everything though , it takes getting used to , but it's worth it. 🇬🇧

@@nightofthe8765 how about this: making a route that avoids bigger cities (desktop must be better choice, more precision), then writing down, on paper, where (places, or some pointers on the road, like "field, mountain to the north, river, bridge, factory on the right" or so) you need to turn, and then keeping that paper infront of you while riding. offcourse, android offline maps and good paper maps as a backup. and a gallon and a half of extra fuel in tank, as you'll get lost anyway....heh...

Have you noticed. If you plan a multi waypoint/stop journey in Android (or desktop) you are given the total time and total distance. In iOS you get only the total time and number of stops, totally useless information and nowhere can you find the total distance for the journey. To get the total distance in iOS I need to calculate leg by leg individually write down each distance then add them up manually :-(. I don’t understand why if both maps are from Google they are not exactly the same, does anyone.

Great video. I planned a short ride and used the spreadsheet idea. Worked perfectly. The only issue I have is that when I send the map to a friend or pull up on the phone, When the link is clicked for that leg of the route the app seems to change the route to the shortest route. So all the work pulling the path to roads we want to travel is basically over ridden. I have checked in the nav settings if there is anything I can do to avoid the change but haven't figured out a fix yet. At least the spreadsheet saves some of the broader info so I'm not starting from scratch trying to recreate the route. Suggestions welcome.

As a road captain for a motorcycle club, I know the importance of scheduling a ride, arrival time, kick stands up time and having the route pre-planned. When it comes to riding cross country or just across states the last thing I want to be on is a set schedule. Call me old school or just non-giver of f**ks. I plan a basic route of where I'm going and log it in my noggin and hit the tarmac. I do carry a small note pad on me and have a route that I'm not familiar with jotted down but I rarely have to rely on that. For me it's all about the freedom of the open road and the open road will always be full of surprises. Electronic devices and time schedules are not my bag ( mockingly annoying voices in background) Either way enjoy your ride the way you like. You might just go blowing by as I sit sipping an ice cold beer at some random saloon I've never stopped at. Remember ksu at.....?

Hey man. I like this. It's actually pretty similar to what I've been doing for a long time. Your addition of google Sheets and links is a smart one. Good idea. Here's the problem I have. When I create a route with say half a dozen way points, Google Maps stops when I reach a way point / destination. It waits for me to acknowledge that I have reached my "destination" before moving on to the next way point / destination. Totally inconvenient if my phone is in my pocket and I'm just listening to directions through earbuds. Making convoluted routes like you do, often a way point is just a place where I make a turn. And I'm not going to ram mount the phone because I'm riding off road and don't want the phone getting damaged. You see my problem here?

Great tutorial and really cool idea with the sheet 👍🏻 but there is a problem. When I copy the link in googlemaps and past it in the sheet, it works great on my desktop. But when I open the sheet on my iPhone and open the link, it shows a totally different way. Not the curvy I planned but the fastest from point to point. Can I do something about that or is this problem a Google Maps something ?! 😅

Loved the video. Loved the idea of the spreadsheet. Here's my issue though. I have the point A to B, no highways option selected. Then I altered the route, chose a nicer, longer road. I double checked the link on my computer by opening a new tab and pasting the link. All good, no need to add a 'stop' along the way. HOWEVER.... when I open the link on my phone while on the road, it's defaulting back to the most direct route, but keeping the no highway selection. Thoughts? I'm on an iPhone 8 if that makes a difference.

I believe the solution to that is to right click on your desired route and "add destination". Result being Start -- a, b, c, d... Finish. Those a, b, c points should reserve the route and keep google from undoing your work. I could see just by testing the link with my phone from within my house, that google immediately trashed my plan if I didn't add destinations between my desired start and end. Adding several is holding the route when I open the link. But I have not tried it on the road yet. My question assuming it holds the route when riding, is what happens at each point. Will it jump to the next or require input/response? Tip - zoom in when/after adding destinations to hold a route to ensure your pin is on the road you want and not on a parallel road...

Yes, this is hugely annoying and google seems to change how this is handled from time to time. I would swear that 6 month ago or so it would do the auto continue, but now it won’t. Anybody find a workaround for this? Would love to keep my phone in tour pack and just listen to turn by turn directions as a way to deal with iPhone overheating in direct sunlight. Can’t do it now though because of stupid need to hit continue button.

Great idea but unfortunately a lot of people watching this won't figure this out when they have no cell service. The route needs to be on the phone and offline maps loaded before you leave. Probably best to just export a file and send it. Lot of offline apps use kml or gpx.

Way too much like work! Talk about sucking the fun right out of riding. I guess I do routes as a suggestion, find the squiggly lines on the map, talk to people along the way and get suggestions. Seriously I've done this all over the world, no reservations with just a vague route preplanned and a destination I may or may not get to.

I have a major problem with this app. I plot a course from A-B with perhaps 20 waypoints in 25 miles and 75% of the way through the course the app starts showing the blue ‘true’ line in two directions at every junction. The remaining 25% of one route was actually displayed as a loop when I tried to check out what was wrong! Please help me with this problem as its completely ruining my confidence in what should be a fantastic tool. Voice commands do not work either - I did get 5 seconds of voice guidance just once, but the app gives way to streamed radio, even when the radio app is disabled it just reboots and I get ....... radio.
