Thank you for a great tutorial! I live outside of the U.S. and set up a Google Voice number while I was recently visiting family there. I am unable to get that number to send emails or forward calls to my phone outside of the country. It appears that I needed to set all that up while in the U.S. but I didn't realize that at the time. I can access my account via my laptop but when I try to use the Voicemail app on my iPhone it tells me that Google Voice is not available in my country! Is there a way to get the number that I registered in the U.S. to a temporary SIM I was using during my trip, and access the settings so that calls to that number will show up in my email or voicemail outside the U.S.?

the web lets me get a google voice number but, when I use the app it ask for me to get a number. When I try and get a number it tells me this device can't be used. I am at a loss of what to do. In the web although I verify a goggle voice number in the settings there is no number listed, it still says you have no google number. @@sammie7641 I'm new to this but under settings... "Show my Google Voice number as caller ID when forwarding calls..." ON will show your 2nd number. OFF will show the caller's number... So that would differentiate the two lines. I haven't had someone call me yet to confirm my understanding. Good Luck!

Thanks for this informative video. I'm looking for a way to receive text messages from my US cell phone number when I am traveling internationally. I have a Galaxy S23 with eSIM and Verizon service with Google Messages for text messages from that cell number. This time I bought a Colombia SIM card, which was amazingly cheap, about $8 for 20 days talk and data. Previously when traveling, I didn't buy a local SIM and just used wifi-calling and texting with my US number (obviously couldn't make local calls nor use the phone when I was away from wifi). With the wifi calling, I was able to receive voice calls and text messages from the US. This time, with my US eSIM turned off, I couldn't receive calls nor texts from the US, even when I turned off the local SIM. Why not? How would this be different from having my phone on airplane mode (which I assume basically turns off your SIM)? I use WhatsApp for texting but not all my US friends do so (and some apps want to send a text message to verify it's you) and I want to be able to see text messages from home when needed. Would Google Voice solve this issue if I forwarded my US phone number to Google Voice??? THANKS

Yes; Google isn't providing cellular service with Google Voice. But if you combine it with Google Fi, you could drop your existing cell plan. 🙂
