After all these years... thank you! This is a game changer for me, especially using the 'Lasso Fill' tool to speed up the process. All because I saw someone doing close to the same thing in Procreate... I thought, "Clip can do this, I'm sure!"

P.S. to my peeps using Krita and can't find the transparent color swatch, you can: A. Use the Color to Alpha filter on the gradient layer (Filter > Colors > Color to Alpha) or B. Select the gradient layer (ctrl + click on the layer thumbnail) then use the fill/bucket tool and fill the layer with black. Edit(3/14/23) OR C. Just click on the gradient layer and simply press the "delete" key on your keyboard which will turn the layer black! Enjoy! 😄

Could you make a Krita-special tutorial for this? I'm lost. It's impossible to paint colors on the gradient map layer -I mean the filter mask (gradient) layer- in Krita (it only paints in the grayscale! :( ) It'd be great if you could send me a krita file involving an example for this arrangement.

I've never gotten the hang of layer masks before b/c I never understood them, and have done my coloring in the hard way LOL But this video has clearly shown me how to make a layer mask and why and where and how. So thank you for going through the process and explaining along the way! Super helpful!

What makes me happy about this video is that I finally got the "map" thing in gradient mapping - Dark colors to dark values, light colors to light values. I seriously wasn't able to figure this out before. As color has always been been quite the challenge for me I've been eager to try this technique -- and here I learned everything I need to know. Thanks

hm that's what I never get about layer masks, can someone explain the difference? To me it is an uncessessary step that I don't understand because: To me I would simply make a new layer, also draw over the parts like skin, make another layer with clipping mask (or lock transparency on the filled parts) and use gradient maps, still will only color the filled areas and I can also change the settings or transparency over the real art. is there even a difference between these two methods?

I'm having a problem with gradient maps where as soon as I press "new correction layer > Gradient map" it just creates a correction layer and turns everything below it to gray scale. I also don't get that menu where you can change gradient settings that you have at 2:20, and when I double click on the layer icon nothing happens. I've updated and reinstalled CSP, but it doesn't help. Do you know what's going on? Any help will be very appreciated!
