One day a few years ago I installed 2, 50lbs boxes of 9 g hog rings around a sewer treatment facility that had bracing and a top and bottom coil spring wire. I don’t know exactly how many come in a 50 lbs box but I can tell you that my right hand was completely worthless for the next day or two. Love your videos. Keep it up fellas.

Hello. I'm trying to find something to help me attach hardware cloth bent in a 90 degree at bottom of our garden fence to prevent animals from digging underneath existing fence.. I have sturdy 16 gauge galvanized vinyl coated hardware cloth with 1/2" Squares attached to bottom of fence, but forgot to extend it to prevent animals from digging underneath. It was tedious work to zip tie. Any help is appreciated as i am not sure what tool will fit in a 1/2" square hardware cloth to attach another smaller gauge hardware cloth to our existing fence..

I somewhat know the feeling of being blind. Never could see all that good growing up. At 26 couldn't renew drivers license. I was putting up fence as I grew up and I found ways to compensate for that. My wife use to tell customers after the job was done it was done by a blind man. Don't count anyone out for disabilities they can surprise you what they can accomplish. I was lucky for exploratory surgery and fixed my eyesight and still fencing.

I’ve only ever used them with the spring reversed. You just blew my mind that the spring could be used to hold the jaws tight to hold the hog ring. I LOATHE hog rings… I still just use a pair of slip joint pliers

Why is it so hard to find blunt end hog rings as opposed to the sharp pointed hog rings?? I use mine exclusively for building & repairing animal cages & fences.

Dan… believe it or not… when I was growing up… we actually used hog rings for HOGS! My dad was a master of ringing hogs. He could tag an ear or ring a nose in nothing flat. We had one boar who was so ornery he could get out of a steel pen with a grate welded across the top. He had two rings in his left ear and three in the other…. That was for Identification…. His official name was twenty three. Old 23 had so many rings in his nose he sounded like he was wearing chain mail. None of them helped because he was impervious to snout pain. So, we decided to change his name to Sausage. Best that I remember, he was delicious. There were times that I hated hogs. Castration day was the worst. My job was to catch the piglets and hold them while my dad played the part of Dr Impotency. The noise, mud and blood were enough to make a boy sick. But, it did provide mountain oysters for dinner! YUM The second worst hog day was weaning. That’s when they got their first two hog rings. The piglets had grown into pigs… My job again was to grab them and hold them…. But this time I couldn’t just hold their back legs. I had to straddle them. Down on my knees, in the mud, a squealing pig doing its best to get out from between my knees… and dad swooped over and slapped that first ring in. Instantly the little porker went from squealing and writhing to screaming and fighting. And did I mention biting? The biting was the worst. Because every so often one would get hold of the hog ring pliers and knock the ring out. That meant dad had to grab another ring, reload … while I was mud wrestling on my knees in pig sh;)! I can’t help but think how much fonder my memories would have been if he had one of those long handled pliers with the spring installed the right way…. instead of his old slip jaw pliers with a tiny divot filed in them at the bench vise! My! How technology has advanced in 55 years!
