Are brands interchangeable between tips and cords? Also, thanks for the lifeline explanation. I received my first pair of interchangeable needles today, looks like what you are using.

Some brands are interchangeable. I don't know if all of them are, but KnitPicks cords and tips also work with Knitter's Pride cords and tips.

I have never seen interchangeable needles without some type of cord key. Unfortunately I don't have any tips for those. :)
