🔥 There’s one skill that separates great IT Project Managers from everyone else-project tailoring. Most project managers get stuck trying to learn every new tool and process out there. They dive deep into theories but still struggle to deliver projects on time and within budget. It’s frustrating. The truth is, great project managers don’t try to do it all-they focus on tailoring simple processes and tools that work best for their team and projects. That’s what creates transparency, predictability, and results. But here’s the thing-tailoring isn’t just guessing what might work. It’s about knowing three critical components: 1) Understanding project management on a deeper level. 2) Knowing exactly what to tailor. 3) Applying it effectively in real companies with real people. That’s why I created the Professional Development Plan for IT Project Managers-to help you master project tailoring and finally become the project manager who delivers every time, no matter the challenge. ✅ Click the link below to get your development plan now and take the next step toward mastering project management. itpmschool.com/get-plan?

I'm a committed full-time project manager recently been fired. I'm looking to upskill myself. I've followed many of your videos and enjoyed every bit since you put so much effort into them to make them look like a real-life experience. Make as many videos as you can on project management. I wanna learn everything I can!

Thanks alot my teacher i'm exited about your classiques classes and would like to know about how can we notice the start and end data with the Epic in scrum please my teacher ❤❤

You are welcome. Keep in mind that in Scrum you don't do detailed planning. So, an estimate on an epic level is a high-level estimate. Plus or minus a sprint at best. Obviously, you need to track when you start the first User Story under epic and then the date when you plan to finish the epic. Again it's all based on user story estimates and planning of several sprints ahead.

Hey Dmytro, awesome stuff here showing the basics and the key info about Jira. As a Project Manager in my current company, I totally get that Jira can be a lot to handle especially because you can customize it so much but also because there are tons of plugins and add-ons on Atlassian’s marketplace that you can use with it. Often I feel a bit😵😊. Just to share a bit. I’ve seen companies using Jira with project predictive frameworks approaches. And I think that’s kind of weird as the agile template doesn’t match all the waterfall projects. Most of the time, you can make it work somehow. Funny, my group use Epics to represent a whole project and then we split activities into stories, tasks and subtasks. We use the project as a big folder for the whole department to keep track of the different initiatives. One thing I find hard is making good timelines. Right now we don’t have roadmap activated. Also, we use a mix of Gantt, timelines and structure plugins which do the job but make things more complicated probably because we don’t master these elements. Do you have any recommendation there according to your experience? Big props for the video, it was refreshing!

Hi Alexander, It quite typical to use Jira with a plan-driven approach. Almost every organization I worked with at least use gantt charts for high-level planning. So, it's totally valid approach. Structure plug-in is a good start. It has an add-on gantt chart view. So, I think it will provide more transparency if you use just one tool. On top of that, you need to agree with other managers to use the tools you have the same way, fill out the mandatory fields and to Jira clean ups. You need to break down tasks as small as practical and estimate them with some level of buffer. And use tasks for tracking risks and reserves if they are more then, for example, 5 days. I wouldn't make it more complicated than that. The biggest opportunity for improvement is to agree on one approach and one tool.

Nice video and explanation, one suggestion is to stay on one screen while explaining or showing an application. E.g minimize your image smaller and keep it on the right side of the viewers screen. Always switching from the software or screen to yourself when speaking isn’t really the best. Most people would prefer to have more time seeing your screen on what you are explaining than actually when talking. Just something you can look into for your future videos.

An epic is a big user story that needs further breakdown. So, usually, an epic describes a feature as a whole.

No, I'm using free version of Jira. I think you are working with a team-managed project. It has less capabilities. Try creating a company managed project. It will have all customizations available.

Hi, thanks for this engaging and informative video. It was a great learning experience. I have a question please. Can Jira be used as a Workload management tool?
@ITProjectManagers
@ITProjectManagers Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for asking. That's a great question. On its own Jira doesn't have workload management build-in. It means you can't see how many tasks or hours per day assigned to a person. It can only generate a report of spent hour per person per day. However, if you add Structure Gantt plugin you can get the resource management and resource leveling capabilities. Additionally, you'll have Gantt Chart and a powerful tool organize Jira issue in multitude of ways.

Great info brother it's very helpful and awesome I have a question can I use a Kanban and a Scrum board in one project. If yes then how can I manage it the issue in the Scrum board can also show in the Kanban with the same status can you please explain this to me?🤔🤔🤔🤔
@ITProjectManagers
@ITProjectManagers Жыл бұрын
Yes you can! In Jira, one project can have multiple boards. Just add a new board to the project. Both boards will share the statuses. Next, you need to go to the Board Settings and map statuses. Interface is simple there. Just name the columns as you need and drag and drop statuses. You need to have project admin role to do this setup.

@ITProjectManagers
@ITProjectManagers Жыл бұрын
There's no one true way to build a project management approach in Jira. What I explained is how how to different features of Jira can become one of the project management tool or concept.

@@ITProjectManagers While there is no true way, there are ways of how to do it, and showing exactly one of it is what your title implies and the video does not deliver. You did a good job providing a feature overview though, don’t get me wrong.

ITProjectManagers Is this course also useful for software developers or only for project managers? Because I've heard JIRA is frequently used by Software Developers (I'm asking this because you specifically say in the video title "in IT Project Management")
